My rearview mirror leaked this fluid from it that burned lil holes on my shifter bezel. Man I was pissed !! Long story short I need a new rear view mirror for a 01 CL-S. I have paypal. Also anyone know if the mirrors from the 98-02 Accords work ??

They're about $100. How many miles are on you CL? Maybe you can see if the dealership will replace it and repair the damage it caused. It's worth a call to them.

 

129000, I called them & they said no. In all reality they auto dim didn't work when I bought it so I guess it's my fault for not fixing it. =(

 

That sucks. It's really not too expensive to just buy a new one. Did you check e-bay?

If you do a search in the forums for this problem...you'll find that the stuff it leaks might be extremely hazardous to your health. You should get it fixed asap and keep your car very well ventilated for the time being.

In fact, the company that makes the mirrors offered free exchanges on them a while back. Their new mirrors use different materials and do not leak. They probably are still replacing them for free to be nice so you wont sue them. Someone on this forum became very ill for no reason and suspected the chemicals from the mirror caused it. He hired a lawyer to force the company to disclose the chemicals in the mirror. I cant remember how that litigation turned out.

They don't have any. It's useless to contact them. I called them and talked to a really nice guy that filled me in on the company and I can tell you that it's a dead end road. You're better off just buying one.

 

Damn that sux my mirror in my cl also is screwing up it looks as if the dimmer is giving out on the left side of the mirror. I guess I will have to either get it repaired or get a new one. Aint life a bitch!!!!!!

 

mine quit working a long time ago. not like it matters though. 5% tint does the trick.

 

I'd be more worried about my health and the acid eating my dash when it leaks then the $100 bucks to change it.

 

Turn off your dimmer. When I heard about the exploding mirrors, I turned mine off and left it like that. Don't know if this will keep it from exploding though.

 

I've never heard of an exploding rearview mirror. Interesting.......I need to see this.

 

hmmm... sounds like someone forgot to leave a crack in their window in the middle of all this heat

 

My mirror did the same thing, didn't leak acid but left a nice mess. Black shit leaked out all over the shifter and everything...I haven't found anything that will remove it...I always leave the windows cracked and reflector in the front window....20% tint all around but I'm in the middle of the desert and it was about 115 degrees out...It cost me 150 bucks for a new one, wish I could get a mirror w/o auto dimming so I don't have this problem again...

Yeah I want one w/o auto dimming also. But I turned tragedy into victory. I covered the lil acid holes w/ some paint then painted the whole bezel silver & black in a way that it matches the fake wood trim then put a bunch of clear coat on it to make it shiny & smooth. Check out the profile pic. I'm pretty proud of myself. Also I would post big pics but I feel like a retard cuz I don't know how.

Here is what I did after the acid acid away some of my bezel. Note the plastic on the left side, u can see where it ate the top layer there.

 

mine did that too, It happened on really, really hot day when I forgot to leave the windows slightly down> i figured the heat caused the gel to expand and leak out. do you guys recall when your mirow went down south?

 

this happened to my brothers 01 cl.

its not acid, and its not hazardous. its liquid crystals just like a watch display or numerous other things. I mean, I wouldnt put it in my scotch but I really done think that your gonna get sick or burned from sitting in your car after this.

shitty thing to happen, certainly makes me worried that it will happen to me.

 

Well the fact that the acid eats through plastics/consoles like a mofo would scare me. Does the liquid crystal in watches eat through plastics like this also? Anyways, they guy that was gettin sick and suing the company to force them to disclose what it was made from is what worries me. Them hiding the info seems shady to me.

 

I should have taken a pic b4 I repainted it but it made what looked like cigarette burns on the stuff right around the shifter gate. I think its a lil more than watch goo. I thinks it's crap Acura wont do anything abt it. My dealer here sux.
