Milking a Dead Cow - Car Washes

I know this has been brought up before, and I forget who it was, but carwashes SUCK.

Someone was bitching about Chicago carwashes scratching rims and I have to admit, I thought he was being whiny... Until now. I just waited an hour to get into this God-for-saken carwash on Waukegan in Morton Grove (Platinum "Auto Appearance Center"). There is a nice hand carwash right acorss the street that I always go to, but I thought I'd give that place a try.

So $15.99 later (plus a $3 tip), the douchbag doesn't clean my floormats, dries the thing like shit, sprays fragrance when I told him not to, and forgets to spray the shine on my tires (I couldn't tell at the time cause they looked wet).

I get home and finish the job to find that all 5 spokes on my LF rim are hella-scratched. Son of a bitch. This is one of those places where Pedro drives the car for you. If my rims are going to get scratched I'll do it myself thank you!

I'd posts pictures but I really just want to forget about the whole thing. I mean, it is a leased car and I just got a company car (Taurtus, woo hoo!) from work. But how do these people stay in business??

I am sure you can all identify with my frustration, and my apologies for thinking peopple were just whiny.

Nobody washes my car expect for me or the gf. I sympathize with those who have no time or live in colder climates.

Interesting... I take my CL to a place that is run by a bunch of religios nuts. I took it there about ten times and my rims are not scratched, nothing got stolen outa the car, and the guys taking the cars through aren't illegal aliens.

Its great......if you don't have low profile tires. One tire goes on a rack that pulls you through the wash in nuetral....the bitch is getting on the rack between the two rails and not scratching the hell out of your drivers side wheels. Otherwise the work they do is pretty good. I take both of my parents cars there 2X per week.

Well down here in Miami, hand wash is the way to go. Theres only a few days of the year that its "cold" and I dont wanna wash the car. But I feel for you guys where its cold now and you cant freeze your ass off just to wash your car. I feel your pain.

Yes, and the irony of having some of the better hand car washes in an area without snow!

As long as you don't mind pinging your whole way there. Are burned cylinder heads covered under warranty in CA?

Well, thanks to my corner Shell guys, I've been spared the dreaded ping. My hobby (dumping a few gallons of 100-octane) is something I tread as a hobby; something to do when I want to have some fun, am in the mood or area, and don't mind wasting 10 bucks.

Hopefully, they don't make the premium 87-octane, so I need to dig and install a huge tank and hijack a high-octane tanker truck to fill it up with non-CA-premium gas (j/k)

BTW -- the effects of the higher octane are not as pronounced in cooler weather [below 70F] (at least for me)...

There's a joke there somewhere but I won't touch it. Oh, yeah I will. Did you hear about the Polish olympic team? They won a gold medal, and took it home to have it bronzed!

Man, I wish McGrath had that, but instead I have to make an appointment 2 weeks in advance for an oil change. The service department is always full of Audis! At least they are moving Acura to a new building next year, so hopefully they'll do something like that.
