Mike Valentine

I just got a couple emails from Mike. I was attempting to get some inside info on the next (major) V1 upgrade. Of course he said he couldn't tell me what they were, competitors and all.

So then I asked him when we could expect the next upgrade. Answer; same as the first answer

I hate surprises and waiting. There's no point to this just thought I'd share.

yeah, i could use a V1 myself, but version 1.8 has been out for awhile so i dont want to waste my friggin money and then a month later see version 2.0 or somehting, i would be soooooo pissed, i think im going to hold out till the next big thing comes out from them before i inveset my hard earned dollars, to big of a risk of buying something out of date at this point.

Have no fear. New[er] units sell for almost full price on eBay. The risk is minimal IMO.

Upgrades tend to be expensive with V1s, at a minimum $100.

You can probably sell your slightly used V1 for $50 less than MSRP.

I dont understand why Valentine doesn't make a different unit at a lower price point with less features perhaps. They'll be able to make more money as they sell more units?

How can a hardcore engineer resist the all mighty dollar?
Eventually pride will wear thin in the face of temptation.

Maybe...

I'm completely happy with the current functionality of the V1. Damn coppers don't stand a chance!

Unless you live in Northern CA where all cops are trained NOT to use a radar gun but rather pace you from behind.

I don't think that FCC mandate has anything to do with cops. It just means the detector has to have more shielding so they don't interfere with satellite communications.

From Valentine1.com:
Many radar detectors interfere with satellite communications in the downlink frequency range of 11.7-12.2 GHz, according to the Federal Communications Commission. But not Valentine One. By a wide margin, it has for years and years been free of any possible interference.

By October 27, 2002, all detectors offered for sale in the U.S. must comply with new RF radiation limits and be certified, either by the FCC or other designated agencies. Detectors sold after that time must have a certification sticker.

Valentine One has already passed compliance testing. FCC approval is pending.

yeah here's what i was referring to...it allows cops to detect our detectors

RADAR DETECTORS UNDER THE GUN
The radar-detector industry is on the fritz after a federal ruling that changes the bandwidth available to new detectors. For a few years, Reuters reports, radar detector makers have been shifting their units to operate on bandwidth shared by satellite systems that regulate automatic gas pumps and other devices; operating in those frequencies allowed the detectors to hide from police detection equipment. Now the government has given detector makers 90 days to stop making units that work on those satellite bands. While some makers have already shifted back to their former bandwidth, Reuters reports, some have not, and retailers could be stuck with units on their shelves when the deadline comes.
