Where can i get good mesh for a grill? I'm doing my roommate's Oettinger body kit on his VW Golf GTI and I might make some for my car as well.

Don't f with chicken wire. Look at Graunger or McMaster & Carr's websites. They have the same shiit being sold by Grill Tech & the like.

There are about 500 types of metal mesh material on their sites.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Material
1008 Cold-Rolled Steel: Easily machinable and can be galvanized to resist corrosion. It can be used for a variety of applications including fan guards, vibrating and sorting screens, and baskets for dipping.

Plain Steel: Low carbon content makes plain steel a good economical choice when corrosion is not a factor.

Type 304 Stainless Steel: Has good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Withstands outdoor exposure and remains firm at high temperatures.

Type 316 Stainless Steel: Due to its molybdenum content, Type 316 has greater resistance to chemical corrosion compared to Type 304. Resists outdoor exposure without rusting and is noncontaminating.

Brass: Resists atmospheric corrosion, water, and many salt water solutions. A high percentage of zinc makes it stronger and more durable than copper and bronze.

Alloy 3003-H14 Aluminum: Lightweight with good corrosion resistance. Has excellent workability and can be welded.

The guy at Grill Tech is still working on it...

We may be better off making our own from raw materials...

hm

what type of material and hole size do people recommend to make one custom? My concern would be making something with enough strength to resist heavy indentation or dents from rocks/debris... no rust... and hole size not restricting air flow.

Their metal sheets are only $50>$85. You can make like 3 grills with that amount of material.

I'd be more than happy to make a few if we can narrow down the size holes, etc. Let me look thru the sizes & see what matches the Grill Tech hole pattern. My sis works there, so maybe we can get a fatty discount too...

The increments of hole size and thickness are so small I can't even measure (nevermind visualize) differences between them. Might be best to just model/measure off one that's already been made.

Could ask ST2000 (or anyone who bought one from him) about dimensions and sizes. Not that he would want to canabalize his own market, but I think he was doing his last batch... so no harm really.

I think Smitty tried that already...Sam wasn't too interested in helping out(not that he should or shouldn't have, etc).

I have one of his grills & I still had to re-cut it, so starting from scratch is probably best, IMHO. Plus, maybe we can find a grill pattern that isn't as played-out as a Britney Spears album.

I think larger holes would look pimp...and I still believe aluminum would be best because it won't rust. I have to repaint the grill I have from Sam every 2 months due to rusting.

I don't think some fresh ideas are going to hurt us here...

ok... I'll get the aluminum for my roommate and I. I don't realy like te idea of doing my grill on top of the stock platic one. personally I think that looks :ghey:, especially on the upper grill sine you can see through it and notice the plastic behind it.
