Lug Studs

Anyone ever replace them? Mine are tore up and Id like to replace them before they cause a problem. I know on some cars there is enough space that I can remove the caliper and rotor and pound the stud out. Ive never done it on the CL though.

they do just press in

if the lug is snapped make sure u grind it flat before hammering it/them as gently as u can out. a few good wacks and u should see them begin to move out.

when putting them in some people wack them in all the way. others set them in place by hand and then use the lug nut and spacer if needed to pull the stud in place. if u cannot get it all the way using this process use the hammer and wack it all the way in.

that is how some ppl do it.

u can also get a deep socket and a damn good clamp for removal. use the same process for removal and install.

but i am sure there is a special clamping tool tho somewhere for this job.

Good idea on the clamp. I may try that. Im not looking forward to replacing them

Depending on mood/weather, I may make a DIY out of it.

When i did this the wheel hub was in the way and when you bang in the wheel stud from the back it went in sideways and stripped the thread....i got around this by slightly grinding the back side of the new wheel stud so it could clear the hub and go in straight. I know its not the right way to do it but it was a temporary fix until i could get it properly pressed at a shop

Thats actually the way some shops do it. I just wasnt sure if we had the clearance for the stud to fit, but from what Im hearing here, it is. And I couldn't care less about the lugs that are in there now, theyre old and tattered.

^^^exactly. Plus, if you REALLY wanted to, you could grind the old ones from behind to preserve but if I ever go on the mission of switching to stock studs, I ain't doing it with old weathered ones. They'll be new anyway...
about grinding part of the head off...mine is staying that way forever. It's fine.
