Lots of (black) Carbon in Exhaust

Hey Guys. I have been noticing recently a lot of black carbon deposits on the outter rim of my exhaust and just today I noticed that it is starting to accumulate on the floor of the garage near where I park the car every night. I was just wondering if this meant that there might be a problem with the exhaust system or if it was just normal, I know that the stuff can tend to accumulate if you go WOT all the time, but I really dont. I have an aftermarket exhaust (Billy Boat) and obviously I don't have the CL, but my engine is the 5.3L V8, so any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

On startup my car belch a fair amount of exhaust, I guess it's normal to get carbon buildup.

Yeah i get a decent amount of black soot on my exhaust after a few days of driving. Never had it get enough to accumulate on the ground however you have a much larger engine so more soot may be building up.

How often do you wipe them down?

I think their is a need to do WOT now & again to reduce the carbon buildup...

I run a bottle of injector cleaner & high-test once every 3-4 months...and basically take a ride down the freeway at unsafe speeds to blow-er-out good.

I wipe them down every time I wash the truck, which is usually once a week. I also run 89 in the tank all the time, so I use a higher grade fuel, but I like the idea of a fuel injector cleaner, I bet that might clean it up a little bit. I might try that with my next fill-up.

Thanks for the replies.

On startup the car is in a closed loop cold start mode, which is richer than once it is warm. It is normal.
