Loose top dashboard vent

Has anyone here had a problem with that triangular vent that's on top of the dash on the driver's side that essentially points to the driver's side window. Not the adjustable one to the left of the instrument cluster, but the one on the top.

I started noticing that the edge facing me was popped up quite a bit, and I could easily lift it up with little resistance. On my last visit, I had the dealer look at it. They ended up ordering and installing a replacement. It seemed to be fine until a couple weeks ago, when I noticed it popping up again. Pushing it back down doesn't seem to help, as it does not catch on anything.

I'm just curious if anyone else has had this issue and how it worked out.

That one is stuck tight in my '01, but that damn adjustable triangular one is another story. It moves on it's own when the fan comes up and blows into my eyes. I reposition it then the fan comes on and it's back in my face again. I like to keep it open to blow on my hand on the wheel in cold weather but I usually end up closing it.

Man your just luky if it doesn't rattle. The long defrost vents under the windshield rattle over anything but the most perfect surface in my car.

Not the long ones, the little one by the A-pillar. I'd rather have rattle over it sticking up like a sore thumb.

That's the defrost vent for the front windows. Mine is on tight. Have them try some trim adhesive & stick the vent back in.

Yes, I've had the identical problem since new. There seems to be too little friction to keep it in position. I've found it helps if it's pointed to the left. Of course, that doesn't help the A/C on hot days.

I hope you find a permanent fix for this. Let me know. Thanks.

Funny you should ask--I just re-set mine today.

I don't know how long it will hold, but, I just pushed it back down and sort-of moed it forward and back until it seemed to catch under a bit of the dash material.

We'll see.

I had that problem as well but took it back to the dealer and they replaced it. The one they put in is tighter than the other vents in the car.

Thanks, guys.

I was acually able to get it to stick back down today (by pressing downward and pulling toward me), but I suspect part of that is due to the temperatures. Fact is, it shouldn't pop up at all, regardless of temps. (sigh) Guess I'll have to have the dealer replace it....again.
