Left Lane Squatters

Yea! Last year, my state passed a law making it illegal to drive in the left lane on the interstates unless passing or exiting left.

Boo! The state police only handed out 998 tickets to squatters while giving out 400,000 speeding tickets.

I guess enforcement isn't a priority.

Really, Say I am crossing from state where is not a law! How do you know about this f. law. Is it posted on the HW?

Or only who has state residents get ticketed.

Doesn't really matter, you shouldn't be in the far left lane unless you're passing. I see people every day coming onto the freeway and cutting over 3 or 4 lanes just to be in the far left lane, then they only go the speed limit or less.

I know its the law in KY, but its only posted on a few highways, here in MD these f%##$S don't know the difference in right and left lane courtesies....I agree with the one guy that said it doesn't matter if the law is posted or not, it is an unwritten natural law not to cruise in the left lane (especially if there is a type S around)

So if you are in the left lane and you are moving like you should be you are passing everyone so even if you are speeding you are still passing

The same law applies to Illinois and Indiana motorist.. But I must agree with the common courtesy notion. It shouldn't matter if left lane squatting applies to your state. Leave it alone for saftey reasons even if you feel like your the fastest wheels on the road. Cuz chances are, someone is gonna need to go faster. As long as you have plenty of room on the right lan to hit the 80mph plus, why bother with the risks involved??
... It pisses me off when I get on the left lane to pass a right lane motorist only end up stuck behind someone going slower then the right lane.. I become sandwiched between a slow car, someone tailgating me and cars on the right lane that will not give in. Makes no damn since!!! People do get the hint after the lengthy tailgate and flashing high beams by which are means that I hate having to resort to. Anywho, If you don't have a radar detector you will be a lot safer in the right lane and less likely to be the sitting duck for the radar gun holding - trigger happy Barnie Fife lookin' trooper.

Rt-3 is a 2-lane HW. I hate driving on right side cause of the mergings people would have to merge head on you.

Anyways, the left lane I only see motroists doing 75-85+ on 55.

Drive in the right lane, pass in the left lane. I'm almost pretty sure that this is the law in all states. I've been to 49 of them and this has been around for many, many years. Whether it's enforced or not, who knows; but the next time you get a [speeding] ticket, see if that offense and fine is listed.

So here's my twist on this, you are passing in the #1 lane and you are approaching a slow moving vehicle driving in the #1 lane. What do you do?

1) Pass on the right? You could get a ticket for passing on the right.
2) Drive right up to the LLB's bumper and tailgate until s/he moves right? You could get a tailgating ticket.
3) Drive up to the bumper, touch bumpers, and start pushing. Don't laugh...it used to be done at times.

Which brings to mind another topic that I've been interested in..."Flashing your headlights".

I was, am and will always be a LLB. Even on the Pa Turnpike. The most damgerous lane is the outside lane. I look at driving like this: God put all these idiots on the road at the same time, my mission is to navigate around them without getting killed.

These jokers who end up in the left lane going 50mph are the same people that make a right turn in front of you without stopping at their stop sign. The brakes are now red from trying not to run in to them. Then they you go, "well, they must be in a hurry." But, wait they then drive along at 10 mph under the speed limit.

What is this, "I must hurry up to kill you and me."
(sorry, a divergence)

If I can't get around some Bozo hogging the left lane, I slow down and move to the right and just sedately watch the rear views and try to wait for someone else to go blasting through the right 2 lanes. I then play follow the leader, so they can get busted for driving too fast. BTW -- I let them do the eye attention getting stuff. Also, helps if the lead "blasting" vehicle is a nice high visibility vehicle (red BMW, yellow Porsche, or lane weaver.)

Did that even make the news? I live in PA and have never heard of that. However, I know that NJ (or at least parts of NJ) have a law like that. I drive on the PA Turnpike everyday and I'm in the left lane the whole time. In fact, there are WAY TOO MANY cars on the Philadelphia area portion of the Turnpike for the left lane to just be used for passing.

well partner if you are ever in the DC/baltimore area and you insists on driving in the left lane here is some advice...better be moving faster than the speed limit, and if your not and you see an F250 Super Duty so close to you that all you can see in your rearview mirror is a big blue emblem don't take it personal. Its not tailgating its drafting... same goes if it's a gold Type S....
Oh yeah, dont even try to hit the brakes because 8800lbs of steel and a brush guard don't give a shit about Mr. LLB

You are worse than the people doing the speed limit in the left hand lane. The fact still remains that it is indeed the speed limit. I too get pissed off at people doing the speed limit in the left lane but it's dangerous to be on someone's ass at 55 or 65MPH. You are just asking for an accident. No matter how much you want to stress that your truck will tear through someone else's car, it will be your fault when it comes time for the police report and if that person is killed I know I wouldn't want to be in your shoes.

I understand what your saying and respect your opinion, but the bottom line is that the left lane is for passing...you never know why someone will need to be in a hurry and granted most of the time it is just impatience. Most of the time if someone is doing the speed limit there is no problem, but for the people who are just being inconsiderate...F$@k em

Always give way to the F250, laws of tonnage always apply. As F#<ked as the traffic is everywhere it would really be a mess if we were all in the right lane.

I'm glad you took that the right way. Some people would have responded to my post in a much more hostile manner. I was just trying to make a point that driving close to someone on the highway is a bad idea no matter what the reason is. I do agree that the left lane should be clear for passing when needed. However, in some areas that's just not possible. Here in the Philly area all the highways are very busy during the day. There is no way the left lane can just be used for passing only. Now, in the middle of the night, maybe I could agree with it.

TakeFlight, I agree with what you said, considering the amount of traffic and such. My anger would not be directed to you but to the person who feels like this:

"I'm within the law and my right to drive here [as I please]. If I get myself killed in the process (i.e. if I don't get wise and try to save my own life), someone else is going to get in some big trouble for putting me in this coffin." Now how silly is that....

FGS, save your own life. Anyone who hits the brakes with F250 tailgating [trying to cause an accident] is real close to committing suicide. Maybe the negligent driver may pay, maybe not, you'll never know or find out from the afterlife. I can't believe someone would have their own family live with the idea that "they lost their life attempting to cause an accident with a stranger on a wayward highway...."

Let me tell you how I really feel ....the only time I've been in a real bit of road rage happened just like above.

This topic reminds me of a conversation I had with one of my friends:

Me: Hey, I just got CLS - it has those cool xenon headlights
Friend: Oh, are those those bright blue ones? I HATE it when someone driving behind me has those!
Me: Oh yeah? Hey, maybe those slow-ass left lane drivers will start getting out my way then....
