Has anyone ever heard of using Pam Cooking Spray (its used for oven baking so food won't stick to foil) on car rims to prevent brake dust buildup? Would there be any harm to try this stuff? Please, no cooking jokes.....

Yep, don't wait to wash your car to clean the rims. It doesn't take long and the car will look alot better w/ clean rims.

Old used car sales trick. Cleaning the rims and dressing the tires makes even the biggest pile look decent

McChicken asking for no cooking jokes ?? Ok, welcome to A-CL.com

Not impossible. I dont wash my wheels with ever wash. (just spray). It is a 6 speed so there is a lot of engine breaking. Mostly parkway with a bit of stop and go. I anticipate and don't use the brakes nearly as much as most.
My wife has a 92 Celica 5 speed. Brakes never replaced. Mechanic told me 70% of pads are still there. She has 92K miles on it.

I don't get alot of brake dust on my wheels. They get dirty sometimes in the rain. I never have to clean them real well. I used Zaino on them too. I'd be carefull using Pam. You don't want to get it on the paint, then you will have little specs of oil all over the car. Some tire shines are like that, that's why I don't use them.

When i say I use engine braking I am not saying that I continually downshift. With a manual car all you have to do is take your foot off the gas and the car slows down much faster than an automatic. That PLUS anticipation (can you say defensive driving?). Generally speaking (when not driving on a back road for fun) i dont downshift until after the car has slowed and its time to accelerate again.

Of course sometimes on a back road I downshift and upshift frequently cuz i want to feel like Sterling Moss.. (oppps wrong century)
