Yes, we all know this.. that's why so many of us have been going with the OBX or Stone headers.

BTW, if you were going to pay that much for headers you'd be getting ripped: http://www.c-c-c.net/Products_Engine_CLTL.html

Why would you get the drop in filter for $50 when you can get the whole CAI for around $200 which comes with a filter? If your buying all that other stuff you might as well get a CAI.

I already removed the resonator which constricts air flow to the stock filter, and if you look at Comptech's Ice box, the filter element is in the same place as the stock, only it has a tube which goes down to the wheel well. I really don't think there's much difference as long as you remove the resonator and change the stock filter to a high flow filter.

You are partially right on the stock set-up with the K&N drop in, as I originally did the same thing but I ended up doing a comparison on the dyno after buying the Icebox and the modified stock set-up gained about half what the Icebox did.
So you will get half way there modding the intake yourself but it ultimately falls short of the Icebox.
I would definitely go for the Icebox when you have the cash to do so, as it's worth the extra performance for the money in my opinion.
