Just drove the 6 speed !!!!!
Just drove the 6 speed !!!!!
First let me just say the car is totally different than my 2002 with auto. The car felt lighter more responsive with slightly more torque steer. Didn't like the interior though the silver trim just look to plastic and the heated seat buttons looked so cheap. I drove it for about 20 min. and
every minute of it. I never even put it into 4th. gear, didn't need to, to stay ahead of traffic. Anyways the car felt great but I don't think its faster than my auto by much. Yes you feel the torque immediately but when it hits 2000 rpm and above pulls the same The auto in second gear above 3000 rpms feels like it pulls a little better IMO.
Afterwards when we spoke about the trade-in, the numbers where just ridiculous. They want to give me 23,400 for my 2002 bought in Oct. of 01' with 11k miles
the car is in mint cond.....the guy who appraised it even said it was a beautiful car. Judging by those #s I would be $11,387 off a 2003 6 sp. with navi. and $9,054 no navi. The sales guy at Paragon Acura of L.I.C. quoted me the sticker price of the car and said he was around $500 to $700 negotiable. What do u guys think? Do you know how many mods I can do with that money? All I have to do is probably get an extended warranty for 7 yrs. 100K miles which is around $1500.

If you have you car paid off completely then do a private sale and then go for it. With 11k miles on a 2002 you should be able to get 24. Too bad resale on these things is bitch

I also got my car at Paragon... I looked at the 6-speed when I broght my car into service, but their "deal" was ridiculious. I believe the difference between my car and the 6-speed (non-navi) was approx. 9.5k
NO WAY. Not worth it to me...
BTW, what do you think of that dealer?

1. It's a sad fact that cars (depending on make) lose a lot of $$$ in the first year.
2. If you look at Kelly Blue book, you can get an idea of what the wholesale and retail range is. You can get more money from a do-it-yourself sale, but you won't get the instant gratification of driving-off with a new 6-speed with "zero hassles" (from time you spend playing deal-maker). (And, yes there are other trade-offs)
3. Kelly Blue Book note: I tried pricing my car (with very low miles), and found that I was not being given "credit" for any miles below 12K miles, or so, on a 2001 CLS (hey, I forget the exact "no-credit for any lower mileage point. OK). Bottom line -- your 9.5K miles might be worth MORE to a "person" than to a set of tables. (If someone can explain why Kelly Blue book completely ignores low-mileage below a particular "mileage" of a given car and year, I would love to know why...)
4. The manuals do seem to be in-demand, so you might want to do some "serious" shopping around and be a flexible as possible.
Just a guess, but if you were willing to spend your own time, you could probably “work it” (the deal) a bit to get more $$$ in your pocket or at least get extended warranty, and other goodies for the trouble...
Can you try the online brokers and see what the bottom-line/best price is for the 6-speed????
AND
Then, switch hats and call the dealer up and see what they are selling a used 2002 auto with similar mileage…
$0.02…

Before I even test drove the 6 sp. I called the dealer where I bought my 2002......Montclair Acura.....spoke to Ayda who is in charge of internet sales. She quoted me 29,124 for a 2003 6 sp. non/navi. That also includes destination charge which is 495 I believe, tommorrow I'll be taking the ride down to Verona,NJ and get a trade-in value. I always praise this dealer because they gave me 1000 dollars more than anywhere else when I traded in last time for the 2002. If I can deal it for about 5k difference believe me I'll be driving 6 sp. soon. Keep u posted.

Huh, you have point there. Well I dunno the equation get's that much more complicated or more simple depending on how you think about it. Welp, for you i think you could go either way. Only 11k on the car is not bad. I on the other hand have 24.5k so :'( I'll take a ride up to PAA in a couple of weeks and see what they say.
Lou,
The deal doesn't sound right. You can get a better deal on the 6spd. As for '01 CL's, dealers are pricing them between $24,000 to $26,000 with mileage betwen 10k to 35k. So a little more research into '02's will be necessary. I'm currently working on a deal for the TL-P w/navi for $29,500 inc. dest. If you want, I can try to get the salesman to quote me on the 6spd. PM if interested.
By the way Paragon SUCKS!!! The sales staff/managers are not up to par. That's why they're not a Precision Team. The service dept is not as bad though.

Do you know how many mods I can do with that money? All I have to do is probably get an extended warranty for 7 yrs. 100K miles which is around $1500.

Got a quick quote and a 7/100,000 mile extended warranty would only cost me 1,000 dollars even. So let see I'm off by 11 grand if I trade-in for a 6 sp. and only 1 grand for an extended warranty.....damn toooo much of a fawking difference
