I suck at painting (painted my bumper)
I suck at painting (painted my bumper)
Well I decided to paint my front bumper like some of the people here already have. I used Walmart ColorPalace Silver Aluminum spray paint.
I first washed my front end a little...its pretty obvious from the other pics the rest of my car isnt washed
At first I wanted to paint the middle section just like chikai, but decided not to after i started masking, because masking is a BIATCH! I'm impatient, which is probably why I screwed up so bad on the rest of the it.
Also, I took both my M6s out, one just died after 5 months of use, both swelled up and I had to break them inside the housing, so that sucks...maybe I'll go to piaas next.
After masking as best I could, I started to spray, needless to say, I screwed up bad and didnt mask as much as I should have!! I got silver spray paint all over my car, and on the lower grill also! I missed plenty of spots around the edge also!
On the main area I sprayed a little too much and it started to run, so i tried to smooth it out, but that just made it worse! So I just sprayed over it some more, which isnt as bad as before, but still looks like crap.
Here's the pics, the quality isnt great, and I did not want to zoom in on the mistakes :P
It's a bit dark and hard to see, but I tried to make it a little more "Aggressive" and made small triangles that point toward the middle from the lights.
i'll most likely redo all of it with some better masking. Good thing I had some Klasse handy to get rid of the unwanted paint on the car! Its only 1coat too, btw. I got sick of all my screwups so I stopped after 1 coat.
make me feel better and reply with "hey that doesnt look too bad..."

Don't worry dude. It doesn't look bad.
Then again, I can't see the pix yet...
Anyway, it's nothing you can't fix with a little time and energy.
I'm curious about the small triangles too.

and i'll take more close up pictures of everywhere i screwed up, which is like, everywhere.
anyone know anything that will remove lots of spray paint fast? but wont remove our regular paint?
klasse does the job, but i would like a cheaper alternative

paint thinner will remove it easily. just have a bunch of paper towels (and latex gloves) handy and stay off the factory paint as much as possible. it won't hurt your factory paint if you are semi careful. i always use the automotive type thinner, you should be able to get it for around $10 gal. at your local autoparts or autobody supply store, ask for wash thinner.
and when you paint again, take your time and do it right. it's a good idea to lightly scuff the area w/ a (grey) scotchbright pad before painting. you can get this when you get the thinner.
and most importantly, 3 light even coats > 1 or 2 heavy drippy coats. good luck.
