I love being called a liar.....LOTS OF HATE INSIDE THIS THREAD!!!!

I called Classic Components to see what could be done about my wheels peeling....powder coating is supposed to be tough. I called, and the first thing I asked was....when you powder coat your wheels...do you strip them....he said yes...ITS STANDARD. Then I asked him why he didn't stip my wheels. He got pissed and said how do I know. I told him that an impact wrench flaked off the paint. He said an impact wrench would do that to any finish...BULLSHIT!!!! The he puts the owner on the phone He says that car wheels should be put on by hand, and that my wheels were stripped before they were coated. I told him that it was the original finish...and I could prove it! He said wh don't you send them here, but you have to pay for the shipping, and we'll evaluate them. So they basically admitted the fucked up....but they won't fix the problem. www.classiccomponents.com sucks the biggest, fatest, herpes infested donkey balls!!! DO NOT USE THEM FOR ANYTHING....THEY SUCK....their work is shit...I HOPE THEY ALL DIE!!!
~end rant.....Nicky Pass = Pissed - $400

No prob. not using them.. I am over on the east coast, so I would not ever bother..

Jesal...are you kidding....I thought forged wheels were the best???? Smitty: I had my wheels powder coated by these assholes in January....I took my car in for some paintless dent removal...when the guy put the wheels back on he used an impact wrench ....and all of the powder coating came off of the center. Underneath their shitty job was the original paint....THAT THEY SAID THEY STRIPPED OFF. FUCKIN LIARS.....DIE DIE DIE....

I have a buddy of mine who ordered Iforged wheels. They told him it would take 4-6 weeks, gave me about 3 different shipping dates, all were lies. He JUST got them after 10 fuckin weeks of waiting, when he gets them the center caps are all fucked up.

Heres the worst part... the fuckin rears werent made to his offset!!! The wheels couldnt even be mounted on the car!! Somthing about the hub not being flush to the wheel, fuckin iforged sucks the fat one

that's normal, in this industry always double the time on what it takes, and i've read all the horror stories on the net about them, but for every bad story i've read, there are atleast 10 happy customers. Thier customer service sucks, but their product is good.

Check out the supra forum, the ls1 forum, corvetteforums.com

many many happy customers. Only problems i've heard are on rim size mixups and the long wait. Haven't heard a single thing about bad quality. I even went over on E46 and didn't see any complaints on quality.

send me some lings raghead

actually, an impact wrench will strip the paint off on nearly any finish. It's metal grinding against paint, who do you think is going to win. It's obvious that the person who put the wheels on didn't take the time to be extra carefull w/ them. But, you are still right in the fact that they should of stripped the base first. But that's not gonna prevent the paint from getting fucked up when it comes in touch w/ an impact wrench. The socket you used obviously hit the paint, and that will strip it. I've seen it happen on nearly any wheel that is powdercoated/painted/etc. It happened to my CP10's too.

From now on....when I take my car some place, I'm gonna make sure they use a TOURQUE WRENCH. If they do use an Imapact wrench....THEY DIE.

also make sure they use the thinnest wall socket they have, that way it's not rubbing on the paint. It's not the impact wrench's fault really. It's that the socket was rubbing.

Ghander and Nicky: Powder coating Dave here, just got back in town, and I am the guy who fed Nicky the information about powder coating. I do it for a living for 13 years now.

Not to go contraire on you Ghander, but this stuff is really incredibly tough IF IT IS CURED PROPERLY, and in Nickys case, if there are no "intercoat adhesion problems."

Here is how this story goes, folks. If I powder coat clean steel panels about 1 mm thick, AFTER THEY ARE PROPERLY CURED, I can fold them in half by hand, take a hammer to them, and pound the fold flat. VISCOUSLY! The paint will not break.

When nicky examined his paint chips, they were his anthricite on one side, and I do not know what color they were on the other, original side, but they sure as hell were not anthricite. So, his wheels were NOT sandblasted.

There are multiple applications where two and even three coats are needed. But, the powder manufacturers, because they are in competition with each other, guard their formulas. It is totally impractical to apply a base coat from powder manufacturer A and follow it up with, say, a clear coat from powder manufacturer B.

NO ONE IN APPLYING POWDER COATINGS MIXES MANUFACTURERS, PERIOD.

Nickys wheels were not sandblasted, and if he has retained paint chips, I can perform scanning electron microscope analysis for him, and prove that this is so.

And, If his wheels were originally powder coated, and I am sure they were, the chances of a compatible powder coating to the first coat run around 2%, maximum, tops.

Nicky did the right thing by going to powder coating. He just did not ask enough questions. NEVER ASSUME! Powder coaters will always accept work, because the economy is down. Intercoat adhesion, and under cured probably did him in. Judging cure times on sheet metal is easy. On a massive wheel (26 pounds!), you have to stretch that "10 minutes at 375F AFTER the part reaches that temperature out to about an hour, or more.

If Nicky gets a large ration of shit about this, I am willing to testify, in court, on his behalf as an expert witness. I have already had to do this one time for my company, but facts are facts. I HOPE nicky retained some paint chips for analysis.

In case any of you guys are wondering what we are talking about, Nickys wheels are at www.goodrichtechnology.com and mine have been on the car about three months now. No complaints from me, and I test powder coatings for corrosion, adhesion, impact resistance, etcetra.

In fact, my three day old, anthricite CLS6 with navi/spoiler now sleeps in the garage with 650 miles on the clock. I traded my seven month old CLS6, satin silver, so the CAR would match my WHEELS! Ain't that crazy!

Look for a post from smitty, starting tomorrow for the new "look".

I LOVE THE NAVI! PERIOD!

And powder coating works great, just great. AS long as it is APPLIED and CURED PROPERLY.

agreed, I love the PC, practically every piece of my hot rod was powdercoated. The frame is the most unbelievable, i've beat and pounded on that thing and it barely scratches

Most of the PC'ing i've seen on wheels have not been that taken care of and well done.

Ghander: You and I talk the same language.

Powder coating, 100% cured will do just fine.
PC, 200% cured, just fine also, but whites might start to tend to yellow.
PC, 99% cured, equals pure junk! I know!
