HP not looking for speeders...

I was on my way Busch Gardens in VA this weekend when my V1 gives me a "radar is behind" LED alert. It was a pulse radar and since I was the lead car that moment, there was no initial warning. So I hit the cancel button on the cruise control and I looked in my rearview mirror. There he was zapping cars as we passed his hiding place.

I was doing 75+ on a 65 and 3 other cars were getting ready to overtake me. He could have pulled over anyone of us, but he didn't.

I figured since we just passed the NC/VA stateline and several "radar dectectors are illegal" signs, he was checking which cars had detectors.

He was checking on who's gonna step on their brakes.

Anyways, since our radar detectors (V1 and 8500) are stealth, I would share this (maybe) new revenue generating tatic.

Happy Motoring!!

Trust me, V1 and Escorts are in no way 'stealth'.

Hate to admit but I think m3sin is right on the v1 not being stelth.

TypeSKid had a v1 in va and the cop detected it and almost made him run it over w/ his car.

my 8500 on the other hand, we had a police sting on this 20mile pkwy from my house to my work(lucky me ) so all last week day and night they were shooting radar. I detected so many that I thought my 8500 was broken, even when I was the only one on the road the detector went off but cop didn't get me.

Also R1TypeS has the bel950 or something like that and he claims he passes va cops all the time.

Also I wonder why your v1 didn't go off wayy before when u were behind. hmm

V1's are suppose to operate on a different wave length than an ordinary detector. Valentine came up with the frequency on his own and patented it. So it wouldn't make sense for police to make a radar detector detector just for the V1. (I think I read this somewhere on his site, but can't be postive) But I'm not going to be the one to go out and test it.

Someone explain how police can detect a detector? Isn't the detector a passive device?

Sorry M3Sims, bad choice of words. "Better at VG-2 proofing that ordinary detectors" is what I meant to say.

Why I didn't pick him?? I guess with all the trees around, the radar signals were absorbed, extremely short radar range, or set to the lowest setting. I dunno.

Anyways. I wanted to point-out that stomping on the brakes would have resulted in a ticket.

You know there's one thing I don't get:

I don't have a detector, but if I SEE a cop, I'll brake and slow down.

And if he can see me, I can see him, right?

So how does this prove anyone has a radar detector? Maybe I was watching out for cops, and when I spotted him I braked, like everyone else does when they see cops.

btw, thanks for the link explaining VG2. That makes sense just fine, but the "seeing brake lights will get you pulled over" doesn't.

The V1 is "Stealth"? What does that mean? They can't tell if you have one?

i was gonna say that, i mean, just cause you speed by a cop, with 2 cars beside you, and nobody gets pulled over, doesnt mean anything at all. The cop could have been lazy/not paying attention, anything really, and i bet TONGS of people withuot radars drove by him, and hit the brakes, when they saw him...

The cops is not looking for proof positive that you have a radar detector in your car so you hit the brakes.

He is looking for probable cause.

If I hit the radar switch and immediately I see a brake light, you have a detector, I can tell. Your brake lights came on seconds before the others perhaps.

Looks, the cops have been sitting on the roadway doing this for years, decades. It's not rocket-science and it doesn't take a genius to know and understand what's happening on the freeway with these damn cars. Don't you have things going on in your line of work or in your office that you can just tell.....from experience?

The cops aren't stupid. If you ever get a chance to pickup a radar gun, go out on the roadway and try it for yourself. You'll see results right away and you'll see how easy it really is. Years ago, I had a radar gun and every single time I switched that thing on while I was driving, I could see the brake lights come on instantly. Marked or unmarked cop, it's too much of a coincidence and now I'm suspecting you'll have one....I'll just find out when I inspect. That's what the cops are thinking.....

V1 is VG-2 immune. Well, at least the ones they made about 4 years ago were. My uncle was a VA State Trooper so I had him try and detect my friend's V1 with his VG-2 box. He could only detect it when it was about 30 feet away. It's pretty stealth...
