Me and NOVAWhiteTypeS know one thing about the battery: It's too heavy for having NO FRIGGIN GRIPS ON IT TO PICK IT UP BY.

Trying to take the battery out is a bitch and a half because there's no good place to grip it.

And it's definitely 20-25lbs.

Hey Guys,
If I remember correctly the stock battery weighed 38lbs. Maybe another pound or two for the plastic battery box. I replaced it with a Genisis dry cell battery that weighed about 14-15lbs. These batteries are available from Porterfield. Yes, the same people who make the brake pads. They are actually made by Hawker.

No doubt, they are NOT 17~18 , ATLEAST 30+, we each tried to pull it out by the edge by our selves but too friggen heavy, When we both did it we both cut our pinky fingers , first I did when we took mine out and then Jrock's when he was taking it out, And when we put it back it, that shit is WAY more than 30+.

Spiro,
Go to porterfield-brakes.com. Scroll down the home page to the bottom and click on odyssey. It is model PC680 for $169.95. I have had it for a couple months and have been happy with it so far. No starting problems, however I do only have the stock stereo no amps etc.

Kevin,

I'm considering replacing my battery with a lighter one as well. How do these batteries compare (besides weight) with other batteries... say from Sears?

Have you noticed anything different since you added it? Did you have any problems installing it?

Hey sigs, how much work is involved in moving the battery to the trunk?
Where exactly did you put it?
Do you have any pictures?
Anything noticeable in the behavior of the car?

I've been thinking about it for the longest time but have not gotten around to do it.

I had trouble finding the link from the main page, here it is.

This link might be worth tossing in the FAQ links:

Odyssey Battery for Acura CLS #PC680:

http://www.porterfield-brakes.com/batteries.htm

It looks interesting, and they even have an article on installing it into an NSX (in one of the cached Google links).

I wonder how this thing holds up, since it is a Motorcycle battery...

There are some pages out there they show "adapter" kits made for the battery, to fit various cars.

Here is a link to the DALI racing page (ACURA NSX page -- with the Odyssey 680 show with a NSX stock battery replacement holder). There is also a link to the charging specs and other good info (even other batteries):

http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/search/index.cfm

http://216.97.114.64/v666-5/catalog/...odyssey680.cfm

A possible search for more results and info is:

www.google.com with search words = "odyssey battery Acura"

Im answering my own question, well, The optima battey's won't save u weight cause they all weight over 37lbs. but the CCA level, what ever that is is higher in the optima batterys vs. Porterfield batteries. there both drycell.

I have the factory in the trunk not being used don't really know what to do with the fucking heavy SOB.... I replaced it with A hicap dry cell.. deep cycle because of the amps and it mad my lights a lot brighter.. Think it weighs the smae 38 lbs as the factory. It also saves the alternator.

Just ordered the PC925 for $133.95 from a distributor in California. They offered free shipping!

The price for the PC925 from Porterfield was $179.95 and the PC680 is $169.95. You can see why I shopped around...

Also, I was talking to the Porterfield people and they suggested for auto use with electronics (ie: radio, etc) they highly suggested the PC925 model instead. Just a bit thicker and 10lbs heavier tho.

The distributor in California is:
Advanced Battery Systems Santa Monica CA
310-450-1630.

Hope that helps.

P.S.- paid $30 more to have it shipped 2nd day over the free ground shipping. Yes, I am impatient.

Uh, wait, so do we have a consensus on the weight of the battery? I'd say around 40 pounds, but I'd be glad to pull it out and weight it. I just yanked it out yesterday, no big deal pulling it out again.

Guys here is the deal I looked into this much cause I want to but a dry cell in the trunk to balance the weight.

First the stock battery is 38-39 lbs.
PC680 weighs a mere 14 lbs.
PC925 weigh 25 but more powerful and comes with a holding bracket.

Cheapest I have seen the 680 is $89.99 not bad the only problem with these batteries is heat. The heat of the engine will not make it last that long so its better in the trunk doesn't mean it can't be done it just won't last as long. They last up to 10 years and is a lot safer than stock batteries since they don't leak. Also I think they deliver better cold cranking power. The size of the 680 is roughly half the size of Stock.

All information is given of the top of my head so i might be off by a little will double check.

I was just thinking about this last night.
get lighter battery, relocate to trunk.
replace spare tire and jack with 2 cans of fix-a-flat, put new battery spare tire well.

i'll have to pass on the group by for now though.

Isn't there going to be issues of grounding though?
