How long till 6 speed discounts?

How long do you think it will be before we start seeing some decent discouts off sticker? I want it so bad, but I don't want to pay sticker or near sticker like I did when I bought my 2001 the first month it was out. How long do you think it will take for the early adopters to all get their cars and the dealers start getting serious about moving inventory?

a long time, maybe a year. There are still many, many 2002's on the lots, I just got one for cheap. Plus , I don't think the 2004's will be released until the "normal" time , around 9/03, unlike this year's 2003 3/02. Of course it all depends on if Acura keeps on even making the cl

It all depends on the demand. I would guess price should drop in about 6 months. If it does I might be in the market for one myself.

Im paying MSRP for mine, and honestly, i dont think it will go down much from there....if you wait like 6 months, you may be able to get them for less, but you wont get them near as cheep as you would for an auto. Like they said, only 2700 are to be maid, so you have to figure, 6 colors, how many dealerships=not many of each, so i realy dont expect big discounts....thats why im just geting it now.

Don’t forget, they’re only building 2,700 of them.

My dealer said people are getting PISSED because they’re coming in to test drive the only 6-Speed they have unsold (Silver w/o NAV) and want to put in an order.

They get mad when they’re told June/July or later timeframe if they want a specific color/option combination.

Right now there is a lot of dealer swapping going on for certain colors, but they don’t expect more then a few cars a month in after the initial release.

Do the math.....2,700 is only about FIFTY cars per STATE depending on how many Canada gets !!!!!

Also, if you don't need or want the 6 speed (like me) a 2002 is a no brainer, you would save a pile

I guess it all depends ....

.... does anyone sense they're "flying off the lots" ? Or is it just a couple nuts like myself who were waiting for this baby?

And, where does the "2700" figure come from?

I sense it to. We already have several new 6sp members on this forum alone an thats just a small sample. Not to mention I've seen two 6speeds at the mall in the last week.

Acura must have some really dumb people. Of course there will be demand for a luxary coupe that has a powerful engine, nice interior and MT!

If you want a discount, one strategy would be to wait two months and see what colors aren't selling.

I bought my 2001 in September 2001 and I had no trouble finding white or red. Dealerships seemed to have three of each on average. Finding a silver one was a little bit tougher though, and I think I could have saved an extra 2k had I gone with white or red.

I think my dealer got in FOUR.
BLUE, BLACK, RED & ANTHRACITE

The BLUE, BLACK & ANTHRACITE were already spoken for and the RED one was traded to another dealer for a SILVER one which is now being used as a test drive car.

This was as of Friday when I was up there last.

I agree. Acura should make way more than the 2700 6sp CL-S scheduled for production. Acura should produce atleast 6,000 6sp CL-S, they could easily sell that many.

Bro I wish Acura would do what u just said but they won't. I read that Acura based the production #s 4 the 6-speed on the avg. # of people who buy a manual tranny. One mag even said that Acura was being optimistic b/c the 6speed's production was a larger then the avg. manual production #'s compared 2 their auto trannycounterparts 4 other cars (i.e nissan 6-speed maxima vs. automatic) . This mag/article also and doubt abt Acura being able 2 sell all their 6-speeds

p.s. Went 2 the smithtown acura 2day 2 inquire abt the 6speed and they said they only get 2 a month. Full list +dest. 4 each; also they would only have black and silver b/c they said that was their most popular colors, and that ordering something like blue or white could take till July

I think that 6 months is about right; this car has never been a big seller---some dealers still have 01's sitting on lots never sold and I doubt its because of manual transmission. It's the 2 missing doors---people who want the 4 door convenience get the same car in the TLS... The luxo-coupe market is not that large, and I dont think that manual will make a big difference, except to the small group like us...

Do you think a broker would help any? Or are they just going to call every dealer in town until they find the car I want and then sell it to me for sticker? (Something I can do myself.)

Bro, brokers are a waste of money, try carsdirect.com and ur local dealers and try 2 find outwhere they have the car at the color u want it. Pretend that u'd have that dealership do the swap but then ask them what dlrship they are gonna get that car from so that later on u can contact them.

its a classic low supply-high demand shinanigan probably
aimed to get consumers thirsting for it badly

I remember when the S2000 was hot, it raised market prices much higher msrp And in the s2000's first year of production, it had a limited number too.

They've got us by the nuts because even at MSRP its still a lot of car for the money compared to the competition.

At this rate, cls 6spd will not have any discounts until end of year. You think that is bad, my father wants a mdx and he has been on preorder for his touring package MDX in black since last NOVEMBER. Radley acura is so backed up, he wont get his until June this year and with NO discounts. When a vehicle has low production numbers, don't expect to many discounts anytime soon.!

Dealer told me they expect more 6 speeds in a few weeks. I wouldn't expect to pay invoice but you sould get something off. I agree with the limited edition theory. I read 15% of the 03 CL line will be manual. Don't wait on it. Once you are in it you won't mind giving up a meal or 2 to make the payments.

Honestly, one of the main reasons that a 6 speed version may not sell all well as it could is because so many of us already have the automatic.

Had they introduced this car with the 6 speed when it first came out a whole bunch of us here would have bought that instead of the automatic. But, now we're (the die hard enthusiasts who bought the car when it first came out) out of the picture.

Not to mention that the production of the 6 speed initially would have lended our car the credibility it needed from the beginning. There would have been tons more press and auto comparisons in the mags and it could have changed the whole nature of CL sales.

So, we are now left with Acura shaking their heads and wondering why the car is not selling and thinking about cutting production which would hurt us all. And, it all seems very clear to me that it has nothing to do with the car itself, it has everything to do with Acura's marketing and strategic decisons regarding the CL.

I agree that they blew it by not introducing the 6-speed right away. I am also absolutely amazed that they are not keeping up with MDX demand though. I think that most people who are in the market for an SUV are more interested in getting a car now than getting the exact car they want. And with so much competition in the lux/near-lux SUV market I think a lot of potential MDX buyers are going to other manufacturers because they just can't get the MDX into their garage any time soon.

I was at a local dealer over the weekend and they about 12 2003's, but only ONE was a 6 speed!!! The 6 spd was Black, and they a good selection on all colors on the automatics...

Even they 03 AUTO'S are only a few hundred below sticker

I would buy one now if you really want one, You might not be able to find them at all in a few months and the best you could you could hope for to save a few hundred bucks, not worth the risk of not being able to find what you want later on IMO...

2003 6-speed pricing

My guess is that they are limiting production to keep the price near list for the next six months. The local St Louis dealer quoted me an "internet special price" of $31550! I bought two Acuras from then over the last 10 years. WTF! That's $6m more than a similarly equipped Maxima SE w/6-sp & HLSD!

I would suggest waiting until the fall when the Infinit G35 coupe comes out. It is reported to have near 260 ft-lb of TQ, a 6-sp w/HLSD and will be rwd! Competition is a good thing. Do not buy now, they are raping the sports enthusiast.

i dont think it will be long till its treated like any old auto CL.

i would say youll be able to negotiate sticker pretty soon.

my local dealer already has 3 on the lot that are unsold... theyve been there for a week.

What I don't understand is they can't keep up demand for the MDX and yet they introduced the Honda Pilot that is suppose to be built at the same plant. How are they possibly going to keep up. . . ?

I think you are right...

If one of the car mags did a comparo, and raved about the CLS manual as the new sports coupe bargain of the decade, that could change the supply-and-demand picture... (I did say "if")...

IMO, with the "beating" the CLS sales guys have taken lately (on slushy-box versions), they will be very rigid with deals on manuals if buyers look too "hungry" when hitting the showrooms...
