How gay is jaguar?

Unless they had the names first (in which case I eat my own words) they rode us by naming the S-type and now they are introducing a supercharged version called the S-type R! Why not just call it a TL also?

Anyways, I saw the lineup of Jags at a mall last week and I must say that they look more and more like Fords. The quality of materials is gone from these cars. Not to mention that they are stealing our names.

Their S-Type came out at least a year before ours.

Thank you!

JZ:

Do your homework! Also the 'R' is not only Honda's 'letter', its been used by many other manufacturers (Mustang Cobra R comes to mind).

By the way, the XJR is one sweet car!

EDIT: As Technique would say: "This is an Acura CL forum, talk ONLY Acuras!"

I drove a customers X-Type a couple of weeks back in Philly area. Brother you are way off. This a nice car. Very solid, not by any means a sports sedan as it currently is sprung, but there is proably potential.

Materials and workmanship certainly on a par with the TL or RL. Methinks that later faster versions will be very nice cars.

Jag has done a nice job with Fords assistance. Seems like a joint venture that is producing some nice rides. Not my cup of tea, but if you like the looks, the car is great.

That new sport coupe that they are showing as a concept for the new high end sports car is beautiful as well.

What's with the "gay" slur by the way?

The X Type is PIMP; the website is nice too. But it has a smaller engine than the S type.

I still wouldnt mind rollin in an X though.
But the S type looks like it tries to achieve a Rolls Royce image everytime I see it. hehe

You know this problem could be solved if Acura reverted to using real names.

Rims are nice and so is the S/C. IMO That green is just nasty though. Just saw a brand new black CL600 with those AMG rims...man, talk about woody ....just imagine what Lorinsers or Brabus could do with that thing...

Hey JRock--haven't heard too much from you lately. Yeah, last meet I was out of town. It sounded like you guys really had that one together, though. I'm definatley up for the next one, I just gotta get some more stuff done to my car first to keep it interesting. I think the next mods for me are pulleys, tranny cooler, upper strut bar and new tires (yes, again. The Potenzas are showing their age after 20K and I'm not sure they are going to make it through the winter). I can probably do all but the tires for about 300$ so that's not so bad. I also want the mystery mod once I find out what it is, and most importantly how it is going to affect gas mileage.

And about being politically correct--hey, what can I say. People need to stop being so sensitive today and take a joke.

Guys I'm going to be the Jag voice of reason here cause I love em.
Ok here is the breakdown. First off for people who think the new X-type is a Ford then get your facts straight. I mean com'n are you the same people that think global warming is occuring
The new Jag is actually only 20% of Ford parts. Shit our Acura's are basically Hondas. Also if you knew anything Ford worked with Jag in the mid to late 80s developing all wheel drive on their Tempo and Tracer models. Similar systems have been copied by compaines such as Audi and BMW. THat's how good the development was. Now Jaguar is trying to make a car that competes with it's fellow all-wheel drive under 40K cars. And they did a damn good job of it. That X-Type is more an XJ series than any other car. Besides the Ford Mondeo engine it is all Jag. Proof they did a good job, I know my dad and his friend who are both XK8 and XJR owners went out and got one of these cars for the winter driving in NY cuase RWD sucks in the snow.
As for the letters the first R and S, every company uses them and jaguar always used letters way back to their XK-E which came out in 1961. Or what about my dads 1976 XJS V-12. They also made a XJC12 and a XJ6. As for the Type word. Umm Jaguar came out with the Jaguar S Type in 1948. They re- introduced it in 1998. They called the X-type that because it was fully based on the XJ series model just a shruken AWD or FWD verison.
As for their Supercharging, Umm they have used the "R" since they came out with the XJR15 back in 1990. now they have the XJR sedan the XKR coupe and soon to be released. S-Type R and X-Type R. R standing for supercharged. Oh and by the way their new designs for the F-type kick ass. Based on models of the XKE or E type made back in the 60s.

Yeah man, I've been busy since classes started. Just getting into the midterms over the next couple weeks. I don't think I'll make the next meet. I think that means you will make it, considering we've never both gone to a meet, but combined, one of us has been to each of them.

I want to do headers, but they're still way overpriced.
I am still considering the HKS exhaust as well although I've started to enjoy the stock sound enough that I don't know that I want it loud ALL the time.
I'd like to see the Acura underbody spoiler kit for the CLS. I'm sure it's overpriced, but if it looks REALLY good, I'm going to save up and get it b/c I think my car looks too plain.
Oh and I saw a nice big Type R banner to put across my windshield and some yellow floormats for the front seats.*

Umm I'm not quite sure if you read my post or anything. But the new Jag is based on a Ford Mondeo platform, yes that is correct, but nothing in it is ford, from the dashboard wood, to the leather, to the freaking shift gate, it is all Jag. The engine the 2.5 is a Mondeo engine but the 3.0 is not. Or are you talking about the global warming thing, cause that is bullshit and we all know that. Sorry Meteorlogy major.

I think that he means that global warming is actually a natural phenomena. The earliest recorded temperatures are from the end of the last cooling trend ("little ice age"), and so temperatures after that would be naturally warmer.

So all the data collected by various scientists and agencies leading towards the consensus that man is directly responsible for changing global temperature is wrong

Damn very good man. That is one major major reason. Another is temperature has only been recorded the past 100-125 years. Sicne then population in the recorded areas has gone up dramatically which causes the urban heating effect. Also the amount of Asphalt has risen the temperature. And if you look at daytime charts for the last 100 years the really haven't risen. What has risen is our nighttime temps and the reason for that is beacuse Asphalt has a lower Albedo than dirt or grass. It keeps in more warm air at the surface. If you compare temps of places that have not seen a population increase then there is hardly any change at all.
As for "Global Warming" umm 72% of the earth is water 22% of the land is un inhabited with weather instruments. that leavesus 5-6 percent that actually has had recording data, and that 5 or 6 percent have seen a boom in population cause the urban heating effect.
As for water levels rising, well they are rising 2mm a year on average. Oh and if the polar ice caps melt the water levels will drop not rise. Simple answer is ice take sup a lot more surface area than water. go head fill a glass half full then put ice in it. the glass might to to 3/4 fill. Let the ice melt, you will be no where near the 3/4 fill level simplay because ice has more surface area.
our "hole" in the Ozone layer only occurs over the poles where no one lives anyway and it only occurs in the winter months when the temps are -80 degrees anyhow. As for CFC's effecting the Ozone layer well it takes 30 years for a Air parcel with CFC's in it to travel up to space, well howcome we got readings of holes in the ozone before CFC's were even popular. and sorry about the gay comment.

Interesting how this topic has evolved.

Pgatour1--I agree with you on most of what you said. Also, even though records of temps. have only been kept accurately for the last century or so there is very much evidence suggesting that average temperatures naturally rise and fall somewhat cyclically over long periods of time. I mean don't forget that an ice age came out of nowhere--were we somehow indirectly responsible for that too?

We must also remember that much of the data that has been generated on this topic had been by scientists on both sides of the argument waging wars for continued funding and political reasons. I agree 100% that we need to reduce nasty emmissions in the future and I think that for the most part we are on that track. Problem is that developing countries are putting out most of the really bad pollutants right now and it would cost an awful lot of our money to go over and clean them up.

Oh yeah, and I still thought the new Jags I saw at the mall looked cheap (or cheaper than the last models)
