"Type-S" and "Type-R" aren't names of Honda/Acura cars, they're trim levels.

Companies that use "LS" to denote trim levels aren't complaining there's a "Lincoln LS", are they?

No, the Urban Heat Island Effect results from concrete buildings and asphault releasing the heat they absorbed from the sun during the day into the atmosphere at night, not by trapping this heat. The heat is trapped by the altered layer of gas surrounding the earth, our now modified atmosphere which has a tendency to retain heat as well itself -preventing much of this heat to radiate back into space.

What!?! You said you're already in school for this? Your doing a surface area to volume translation? For one, much of the ice that is melting IS ABOVE SEA LEVEL -AS IN THE CASE OF THE POLAR ICE CAPS. When water melts, it flows DOWN, towards the ocean. We do now have standing water on the Polar Ice caps, do you know when the last time this happened was? Do you? The experiment you should have provided was a bottle filled with water placed in the freezer, water expands when it freezes thus taking up more volume, this along with the gas bubble in the ice cause ice to be less dense -but again this is a falicious argument. This would only be relevent if the ocean and the ice were both limited by the sea level WHICH THEY ARE NOT.

Where are you getting all this random crap from? I'm not even going to bother with this one. Bottom line, Global Warming is not only a scenario that is accepted by the United States Government, but by governments and agencies worldwide. Those who deny this trend are far from the majority and at most times have a political bias to their findings. You can manipulate your research to come to just about any conclusion, but the fact remains that we are and have been destroying this planet for some time now and there are and will be consequences. This is by no means a dooms-day prophecy, but it enrages me when I come across people who are still hugging the legs of daddy Chevron and claiming that we're not having a detrimental effect on this planet. We are, and it is accelerating. I can 100% GUARANTEE you that in 10 or 15 years, there will be no more argument over this, it will be plainly obvious. Global warming can be a very natural trend, but not at the rate we see it at today -it is happening way too fast, and it is because of us. Your mom drives a Sub-urban doesn't she?

Frankly dude, you were being an asshole with your responses. THis is all stuff that we speak about in your meteorlogy class on a daily bases. n't ever knock my intelligence because you have a different opinion. I'm not really going to respond to this much. Simple reason is there are a lot of people out there who are questioning and a lot who feel strongly one way or another, and the bottom line is we are not going to change anyone elses mind and no one knows the real answer.
As for the temperature thing, we just looked at data in class that backed this statement about a two weeks ago. Also I never said we aren't accelerating the process I just said that we aren't causing it. There is no doubt we are helping it along, but fractionally. My mom drives a Jeep. But you know what it isn't important cuase this ia a car forum and not a debate on global warming, lets leave that to the people that matter in this country. But as much as you feel that we are causing it I know plenty of meteorlogist that get outraged when they blame humans for Global Warming.

I did come off as an ass, but this was not my intention. I was very close to a man who spent a good deal of his life many years ago trying to push these things into the light, at a time when things of this nature made for a very touchy subject and considered voodoo to some, as most new sciences are when first introduced. I still get a little jumpy when people come out and make statements like Ronald Reagans famous "Approximately 80% of our air pollution stems from hydrocarbons released by vegetation, so let's not go overboard in setting and enforcing tough emission standards from man-made sources." statement.

Again, you can be selective in your research and obtain factual data that will support almost any theory, like the cattle-greenhouse link "discovered" in 1982, where cattle were to blame for the diminishing ozone layer.

Some points of this argument are debatable, but the fact that we are resposible for the depletion of the ozone layer, and that we have set our own global warming trend that just happens to coincide with -(and dwarf actually) nature's is not, and you will be hard pressed to push your argument very far in a publicly debated forum since most, not just many people already know. I do apologize for the way I came across, I wrote and sent before I took a deep breath and counted to ten.
Either way, I hope you do at least see what I am trying to say. No harm.
