Tell the damn cop to get a life. My truck broke down the other day. While I was waiting for AAA, about 6 or 7 cops drove by me, not even stopping to ask if I needed assistance. If I was a blond girl with a short skirt, every freakin' one of them would stop. Cops, it seems, have there own agenda.

even if u had the time and patience i dont think its worth going to the court over and over to fight it. Cos the fact is u did break the law by going over and thats all they will (or can) tell u if u try to contest it.... even tho nearly everyone goes over the speed limit. Maybe the cop tickets everyone who goes 5 over.
Just DONT TAKE IT PERSONALLY and go take defensive driving classes or whatever u need to in order to get it off ur record.

Hmm...u sure he didn't write it LOWER than the actual speed you were travelling to help you out? A lot of times, cop writes down the speed lower to help out on the payment somewhats.

Well...
Downside to the deferred adjudication;
I believe you can take DA once, but be carefuly, if you have a pretty heavy foot, and you get another ticket within the time frame you are under deferred adjudication it's going to count as a double whammy (the second ticket will be applied, as well as the first because you defaulted on the 'Deferred Adjudication').
If you have a lead foot, or are even negligible afraid of getting another ticket anytime soon do the Defensive driving. In Texas you are allowed to take defensive driving if you exceed the speed limit by 5 mph (What is written on the ticket). Otherwise go ahead and take DA.

Retired. Not available.
I suggest go ahead and defensive driving. If you live close to where you got the ticket, check the local Green Sheet for a lawyer to defend your ticket. 6 miles over is not a big deal.

shaun - good advice, will keep things in perspective
random - interestingly, i was going exactly 71! i totally saw the cop, set my cruise, and drove right past him...he was going 70!
jsuppi - don't have too much trouble w/ speeding but will take dd over da so i don't worry about it.

Dude I always hire Dave Sprecker, for my tickets, and the dude never loses. I highly recommend him. His office is on Montrose. Fuck wasting 6 hours of your life in a defensive driving class. By the time you pay for the class and the court cost, you could have already paid a lawyer, and sat at home on Saturday.
