Honest opinions on Nitrous kit

I was highly considering doing a wet shot in my car. Now my question is, being that i'm not that big a fan of nitrous, should i do a 75 wetshot? This saturday at e-town will probably clinch my decision depending on what i run, but i wanna be low 13's. So i'm curious, should i do it or not? a 75 shot wet. The other question is what brand, NOS, NX, VENOM, ZEX...all input is appreciated, thanks. But either way i'm not doing it for another 3-4 months anywayz cuz of the winter

The ZEX kit is the one most people have. It's a dry system. Easy to install so I heard. Since you have the 6 speed, tranny shouldn't be an issue. However warranty work will be. You should be fine, as long as you take it out when you get warranty work done.

1st with the CLS if you not running anything over a 75 shot there is no need for a wet system. Which you can then save some $.

A 75 shot will put you in the 13's with good street tires. I suggest the ZEX system. Or if you have more $ to spend the Venom is cool.

ZEX is a dry system and is about $500 capable of a 75 shot.

VENOM is about 2x the cost of ZEX, and is capable of 100+ shot. This system probably has the best control unit. And if you have a good budget the prefered.

NOS can be cheaper than VENOM but is generally used for 100+ shots. Also require fuel system mods (for 75+ shots) Which at that point will put you above the cost of VENOM.

NX is very similar and a bit more $$ than ZEX and really isn't any better IMO.

Also don't forget to buy the correct temp plugs. I suggest putting a bottle warmer on. Unless your racing all of the time, a nitrous purge valve isn't neccessary. But it will certainly make someone think twice about racing you if you hit it while your at the light

Do a search there is a few of us who have installed ZEX

LOL, we went into this once before. Lots of different opinions.

A wet system is much safer on your engine than a dry. Period. Only because you don't run the chance of going lean when setup properly.

Going lean can cause you to burn up your pistons/rings. Even blow a hole in one in extreme cases. Melt spark plugs... (also would be a wrong setup)

However people will discuss backfires and such. I have seen very few of them. And most of the systems where this does happen are 175+ shots.

Guess it's a question of which you think is worse.... Running lean or chance of backfire with fuel pooled in the intake?

Both can be catastrophic.

zex kit is the best... i can't promise nothing will brake, but i've had my zex kit for over a 1 year with no major problem(other than trans, but the auto trans sucks anyway) you should be fine with a 75 shot.. i would say bring it to the dyno first just to make sure it's ok(the dyno is just covering your ass just incase)

i don't want you to do it because you'll be faster than me j/k

RobG,

I guess you’re going to be the first one here to find out how much a CLUTCH REPLACEMENT is gonna run.

I'm planning on installing the ZEX system. I just got a price quote from Harley Nace Motors off ebay for the Kit, Bottle Warmer, Purge Kit, Plugs, and the Remote Bottle Opener for $772.00 shipped. Seems like an unbelievable price!!!

I sent an email back to verify that this was indeed the price for everything I've listed, if that's the case this is the best prices I've been able to find. I'll post again once I've verified for sure, but this is something you may wanna consider.

Ah fastvtecCL,

Let me get this straight u are spraying a 175 shot Dry? On a dual ZEX set-up of course. Into a 3.0 CL engine? How many times have u sprayed? And at what speed do u spray at the track? It is very hard to imagine u spraying a 175 out of the hole, all I would see is a 1/4 burnout .

So what are u doing to supply the fuel for a 175 DRY shot....oh man I can't believe u .

see money isn't really the issue, the issue is just pretty much safety. Thats the reason why i wanna go wet, reduce the chance of detonation by a lot. and i'll take it out before i go do any warranty shit. But yeah i think with my drag radials and the 75 shot i can hit a 13.4, hopefully less. Thanks for the input, and btw i was thinkin zex also cuz it makes a direct kit for our cars. i'll make the decision after e-town on sat.

I guess I am old school but I have always been a fan of N.O.S. ... their priced at market rate.. they are not the "prettiest" or cleanest installs but they are tried and proven... If your worried about looks then your not really a racer

who's worried about looks, Zex is purple, NX and Venom are black....NOS is blue...and they all pretty much look the same just different colored.

Zexactly lol

Zex -> GhettoFabulous purple... unles your a pimp or a stripper ... ehhhhkkk

Venom -> If you wanna be a baller and pay 1800$$ for a kit that has some gizmos... great but a good install is the only safe bet .. they are no ":safer" then anything else in reality.. just make ya feel "safer"

NX -> Close 2nd to NOS systems for me

NOS -> Old Skool ... works..proven.. and been around this long for a reason.

in all honesty my choice is either NOS or zex only because zex makes a direct kit for our cars...maybe i'll just have the bottle sprayed to match my paint

Rob,

You can have the bottle custom powder coated for ~30$ any color you want... just look around... its a better option then paint because it doesnt scratch, flake, or peel even under the abuse of being mounted in a trunk.

I have to agree with fastvtecCL on this one. The Zex kit hits hard every time, no matter what the bottle pressure is. It automatically adjusts the fuel pressure according to the bottle pressure. By doing this the kit will not run rich when the bottle pressure it low. Even though fastvtecCL will not have a low bottle pressure problem with the bottle heater I saw in his picture . No other kit out there in this price range will do this. I think the Venom kit will, but look at the price ($1200)

If you can't decide whether to go with NOS or Zex you can do like I did & get the Zex kit & accompany it with an NOS bottle & NOS remote bottle opener.

Seriously though I did not mix and match the two kits intentionally. I had an old NOS kit from my 95 Integra & decided to go with Zex on my CL. When I started pricing the Zex I found out I could get it for about $150 less by not getting the Zex bottle. After hearing this, I decided to re-use the NOS bottle. It does the same thing as the Zex bottle & for $150 less I figured what the f*ck NOS bottle it is

Not mine, but someone here can get this thing for under $300 there's only 20 hours left. Compared to $600 bucks it's not a bad deal.

I have the zex and it was easy to install but the best part is it wont let you mess your engine up. if your not supplying enough fuel it won't turn on. I've gotten a little crazy a couple of times and tried to run a larger shot than usual and because the car wasn't supplying enough fuel it didn't work. Which was good because i then realized that borering out custom jet's isn't a good idea!?!

I have the Venom VCN-2000 kit on my civic, and let me tell you it has been a dream. I have B16B(type R) and with that kit I went from mid 12's to low 11's and I could have gotten alot more. It beats the Zex system hands down. You load the program with your PC and you decide i percentages how much gas and when. I love it. I payed 650 for it on ebay. But you can find it as low as a grand, I suggest the bottle warmer and opener. The civic dyno'd 173.5 at the wheels without gas. with the 85 shot ir dyno'd 219, but when I got the bottle opener it jumped to 237.5. It was still short, I felt it should have been 250, but it was a big improvement. So if they make it for our car go with Venom. Performanc ePoison for our cars. But honestly I bought this car to stop all of that mod shit. When I need to race I pull out the civic, Its fast loud and it makes all those domestic boys run for cover, but then after a few hours I realize how much I miss my Acura. Hey enjoy it, sometimes less is more.

Let me see if I've got this right u threw in a remote bottle opener and u gained 18hp, hows that???

If u were spraying an 85 shot and only managed to achieve 219, it seems to me that u are running rich.
