Do not drive your CL in Georgetown, D.C.!!!

For the second time in 2 months, my car has been hit while parallel parked in Georgetown, Washington D.C.! I have to drive there for my job alot and I'm getting sick of it. The first time, my mirror on the driver's side was completely bent back the other way when I found it--$336 out of my pocket. Now, today, after turning my mirrors in now and parking with no one in front of me, someone managed to scrape the pure crap out of my front bumper on the driver's side! I was so pissed! I'm going to try to have my company pay for the damage, at least the deductible.
I swear it doesn't pay to have a nice car in this area. I should get a hunker, like a GTP or something, to drive around D.C.! Oh well, it's going to be fixed this week.

that sucks man sorry to hear about it.
personally I'd leave the CL-S at home and get some thing 1/2 way dependable but cheap. Like a older Accord like mine.If someone dents/hits it. grant it you'll be a little mad but not as mad as you are now since someone hit your CL-S

If I lived in DC, the only thing I'd drive is a retired checker cab. let them hit that sucker!
BTW, you have to paint it flat black too.

I usually do pay to park about 90% of the time, just this 10% that I didn't. I learned my lesson. Well, it looks like my company will pay for the damage, and reimburse me for my last incident. I just talked to the insurance rep at the corporate office. and since it occurred while on the job, i should be covered!

Install little cameras looking out the front and back of your car and hook them up to a shock sensor. If the car gets tapped.... have the cameras come on and record.

Then you'll have the last laugh should this happen again b/c you'll nail them on tape!!

Thanks

I'm having the guy who works on my stereo's look into what equipment is available to do such a thing. If it's not too much $$... I may do it myself.

Sideview mirrors and bumpers are part of the city life. Fold your mirrors. Get you bumpers repainted every 2-3 years. My rear bumper is showing the affects of other driver's front plates.

Hey 6speeds, Here's a funny story to cheer you up. I once had a guy who worked for me who owned a Chevy Blazer. As I got to work one day, I saw his truck in the parking lot. It had a trailer hitch in the rear and in the front with the tow bar and ball attached so that it was protruding out over a foot. When I asked "Paulie" why he set his truck up that way, he simply said, "That's for the fucken people who bump into my bumpers when trying to park. This way they get "gutzed" for doing it." Paulie is from NY, the only place where a new car looks old after 3 months.

Crazy but good idea pappy! Maybe I should get the big police cruiser bars on the front! Oh, and bluto, I definitely fold the mirrors after the mirror was broken. Learned my lesson there.
Moderately good news about the car, the estimate was only $489 and I filed an uninsured/underinsured claim with a $250 deductible and the premiums won't go up as with a comprehensive claim. Hey, I'll get those few nicks in the bumper sanded down anyway!
GS400Pusher, i work for a structural engineering and construction consulting firm in Frederick, but no company vehicles. We are reimbursed 36.5 cents per mile, and the corporate office said that's what we're paid for, for instances like the one I was in.
I actually had a nightmare last night that the damage was alot worse. So I woke up this morning surveying the car! There are 2 things that no one should mess with of mine--my car is first and my Fender Telecaster is second.

6speeds - Sorry about your car man, but, this is DC. Your car will get hit in a parking lot, garage, public spots, meter or train station lot. I have managed to park my car in the most insane places in dc to stay away from denters and non driving idiots and I still manage to have nicks/dings/scratches on my bumpers. I have no door dings but my back bumper looks like shit. Sad thing is, I park in a gated lot and the attendant babys my car. Just yesterday I got a nasty ding from somebodys license plate bolt and you actually see the indent and the paint is gone leaving a dime like mark. It's amazing how we take of our cars and other people just don't give a rats ass. Unless you keep your car in the garage 97% of the time, you will get a mark or scratch on your car. I don't think no one on this site has a car with out a mark on it.

Took a nice scratch in mine before I became a folder. I actually saw the guy do it, parallel parking. I was drinking a beer at a window seat. Saw a guy park behind me, look at my car after parking, figured he was just looking at it. When I went to go home my sideview was folded and scratched from his sideview, he was gone. Power heated sideviews aren't cheap. I was lucky it did not break.

You should see if there are any traffic or business video cameras in the area where you car was. You might be able to find out who did the damage.

6SpeedS,

I feel your pain man. The only blimish I have to date is from parallel parking downtown. Needless to say, I avoid driving my CL-S around D.C as much as possible, which is easier now that I'm in the 'suburbs'. Don't let it get ya down though, look at it as common routine maintenance for living in the city, that you may or may not have to do ( this sucks, i know, but helps when living here ).
