HELP: Lowering springs question(s)

All,

Just bought some 18's for my 03 TLS and need to go ahead and lower it an inch or so. I don't want to sacrifice the good ride I have so don't want to drop it that much. Could someone suggest a brand of spring and perhaps a good place in the Dallas TX area to get the springs put on.

Thanks in advance..

JIM..

COMPTECH would be the way to go, for 1 - 1.5 inch drop, nice stock ride, with your existing shocks so you dont have to buy some Koni Yellows

The 18s will affect your ride quality some because you are probably also with going with lower profile tires (less than 50), but not too bad.
Go with Comptech or HR springs to save some money. Both are very good and near stock stiffness.

I know two people who are still driving with stock shocks and comptech springs and after 2-years have not blown the shocks out. (30K miles on #1) (49K miles on #2)

It may depend on who and how the car is driven...

YMMV

I know another with 35k with the same deal. He drives hard but I don't think it's how the car is driven so much as the road conditions the car travels on. For example. I don't push my car as hard as he does but I travel on much more abusive roads.

I would recommend Teins because then you adjust the height and damper setting to whatever comfort level you wish. But if you don't want to spend the $850 for them, then Comptech would be the way to go, but then for Konis, that would be atleast another $500.

Yes, I understand the point your making and I'd still think that some people might just go flying across broken road. So, the manner of driving and quality of road both contribute to the wear. (I need to visit up in the hills and there is a private dirt road where I see people driving sport sedans at 20mph with rocks flying everywhere under and around the car while it bobs up and down like a boat in a hurricane newsreel. I'm going so slow that the speedo isn't registering. This is a private road and I wouldn't be able to drive as slow on a well-traveled, public road. However, it does demonstrate that some people treat their nice $40+K cars (Audis and Bimmers to name a few) like SUVs with skid plates (Can you say "Baja 500?")

The dealer is installing my comptech springs and sways without updating the shocks, and they have said multiple times that new shocks are not needed with these springs.

In fact, their doing this for my leased car, which means something to me!

I'm amazed the dealer didn't try to sell you shocks...usually they try to sell you whatever they can.

I was too. I had Comptech's and Koni Yellows on my previous Civic Si, and was expecting to eat that extra expense, but luckily for me, they didn't, and I hope I won't need new shocks.

BTW, I got it at Marin Acura, which was a good dealership, the Sales Managers were great to deal with, but one salesperson was not.

Naw you won't need shocks any time soon...perhaps never unless you do some hard cornering and autocross.
