the only way they can not fix it under warranty is if they can prove that the headers or intake are the cause of the problem. Don't know why headers would cause valves to rattle, but then, I'm no mechanic.

If they give you any crap, post their explanation here and maybe some of the techies will be able to help ya!

Good Luck

mchtypes-

getting the headers put in at the dealer this week. they have assured me that as long as the aftemarket parts are Comptech, the warranty will stay intact. in fact, my dealer's parts department sells Comptech parts.

My dealer sells Comptech parts, but I'd like to buy from www.autocarparts.com. Is the dealer ordering the stuff for you *or* are you bringing the parts in yourself?

Did they care?

They cannot just say the headers voided your warranty. Look up the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. It states that the consumer is allowed to take the dealer/manufacturer to court if a warranty claim is denied and the the dealer MUST prove that the modification CAUSED the failure of the PART in question. Dealers know about this act and most also know that 99% of car owners have no clue what it is. If you maturely and calmly mention that per the M-M Federal Act they must prove the part caused the failure they will usually not void the warranty. It won't always work since some dealers will be willing to let you go to court over it, most won't. If they attempt to deny, fight them, NICELY. DO NOT LOSE YOUR TEMPER OR BECOME AGGRESSIVE, that'll make it harder to get warranty work done.

Yep, I'm going to have to print out this info. However, being one of the many that got whacked on the "FREE Navi CD" issue, I would like to know I don't have to go to court.

There are some things that are best avoided, even though one is "in the right". (Darn, perhaps I can get them to "put it in writing"...

I'm sure the M-M act is in writing. Just print that out and keep it handy

ericL-

i also purchased my headers from autocarparts. as long as the parts are Comptech, you shouldn't have any probs. i would double check with the service manager there though.

Sure its the valves that are making that noise? and its not the flex joint of the headers? Flex join has been a PITA since comptech made the headers some year and a half ago.

I thought they had corrected the joint problem. I agree, however, that could be your problem. Maybe you could contact Comptech for their thoughts and opinions.

If you think it's the flex-joint, then just over-flex it in a circular manner and your problem is solved. That is exactly what Comptech did for me.

The guys over at Comptech told me the problem was fixed in the 3rd generation (current) headers. When I asked about problems, they did say that they did have a single header crack (didn't ask how long ago).
