got my GSX-R 1000 yesterday!!

Hey everyone, just wanted to share my first impressions after riding my 2001 GSX-R 100 for the first 25 KM's yesterday...

it has unbelieveable power..it's brand new, not broken in and it throttle wheelies in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear so far...hard acceleration from 2nd to 3rd left a 200foot black strip on the road

this bike is incredible, I am so impressed and happy to have it

I have already ripped it apart to wire the rear turn signals into the taillight, and so that I can polish the frame this weekend.

here is a couple of pics of it:

the rest of my pics are here:

That's a tough call. The CBR929 is a serious bike as is the RC51 and the R1. Bikes are quickly getting to the point where any improvement is almost theoretical, as 99.999% of people riding them cannot even take advantage of 50% of the bike's potential.

JZ has hit it here....the Suzuki is the fastest bike of all, and also the lightest, but the 929 is easier to get to carve corners...the kawi is more comfortable, and the yamaha is also a great bike, it all comes down to personal preference in the end...

I am ALL ABOUT the Suzuki though =D

Astro--I've had two suzuki's, a 1995 Katana 750 and a 1996 GSXR 750. The Katana was my first bike--it was actually pretty nice as a cruiser. Very comfy and you didn't have to be all the way horizontal to ride it. The GSX was also pretty sweet but you were really hunched over on this one and the carbs were kind of an all or nothing thing. Not very smooth. The new one is supposed to be awesome. I'm assuming your 1000 has fuel injection, right? Two years ago I almost went for the TL1000--I was really in the mood for a V-Twin.

But, it's good to be loyal to Suzuki--they make great bikes and aren't as expensive as the other companies.

I am currently looking at a Ducati Monster 900. Does anyone have any experience with these bikes. I owned an Italian bike when I was younger and was always impressed with the quality of materials used on it. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I am going for my license on monday. I am going to be picking up the new Kawasaki ZX6R. Not sure if I want yellow or blue... But I was also thinking about the CBR 600 F4I, but it's not rider friendly and the it's actually SLOWER than the last one, so I decided against it. Anyway, good luck on your new bike!

My brother-in-law has a Monster and it's a very unique looking bike. Looks much more refined than a sport bike. He has had marginal problems with it (it is Italian). The one thing that really strikes me about it is that is is very small. I am 6'1" and it feels way too small for me. It definately has a dirtbike feel to it. The thing sounds sweet--he put some Three Brothers pipes on it and it sounds mean now.

JZ,

I was starting to think no one would respond to my question. When you say, "It definately has a dirtbike feel to it.", are you refering to a higher center of gravity or too much suspension travel or something else? The main draw back I can see is the cost of replacement parts will be higher than most Japanese bikes.

It's quite an upright riding position like being on a dirtbike. This was probably in part due to the fact that I was jsut getting off my Suzuki to ride the Ducati. No, the center of gravity is not high and the bike really handles incredibly well (nice and narrow from the V-twin). It pretty much goes anywhere you want it to with ease. Good suspension and everything. Big fat tire on the back. It's not terribly fast, however, and the sound of the engine (not the exhaust) leaves a bit to be desired. Back seat is almost non-existent and is not very comfy for a passenger on long rides. One other nice thing is a hydraulic clutch. Good for traffic.

Great bike Astro. I had a 89 GSXR750. 110HP and 388lbs wet made for an unbelievable ride. 120 seems like 55 with the fairings. I got rid of it because I could not not do it. You know what I mean. 0-60MPH in 2.6 secs. 60MPH from crosswalk to crosswalk in a four lane intersection. Had to lean forward to keep it from skying on every shift. God speed, dude.

Now I ride a 90 FXR Harley, a little slower, a little more comfortable, nicer for my passenger, good for long hauls. 80HP and 800lbs makes for some "spirited" acdeleration but nothing like a GXSR!
