george foreman grills in our cars
would it be possible to hook up a george foreman grill to our cars with the use of a power inverter? The smallest one pulls 760 watts i think

I'm not going to go into why you would want to do this, but sure you can.
Once you start trying to power heating elements tho', you have to upgrade the battery storage system.
Now, 750w is alot of power, and you'll be drawing that power for a long time, so you'll want to install a bunch of batteries (at least a couple more) in the trunk like the lowriders have to power their hydraulics or like the pro audio guys have. You'll also want to upgrade the alternator so it will be able to recharge the batteries.
You might also want to think about installing some solar panels too. Maybe one on the hood, a couple on the roof, and maybe another one on the trunk.
One thing that you want to be sure of is to isolate the starting battery from the aux. batteries and inverter. Once your burgers are done, you want to insure that you have enough power in the starting battery to start the car.
In summary, sure you can do it, but I think it might take a little more then just buying an inverter from pepboys

There is no reason to be putting batteries all over the place. The only real reasons you need extra batteries are if
1.) You play to use your high current draw stuff while the car is off. This is sort of silly....
2.) You have sooo much current that it drops your car's operating voltage from 14.4v to 12v. This is a "band aid" case. You are using the battery to suppliment the alternators current and subsequintly discharge the battery. You should just buy a larger alternator. Kiss your $150 voltage regulator goodbye after a while.
3.) You have such a high current draw that there isn't an alternator that is large enough (short of using like 5 together - which has been done. He might need an upgraded alternator if the current draw exceeds what the alternator is rated at - but I doubt he'll be using this with all his lights/stereo on while cruising down the highway.
No need to get all worked up over this. The only thing I would be worried about is the actual inverter - and how the grille would react to modified sine power.

I would have thought the solar panel comments would have given it away

I did pick up on the sarcasm in the solor panels comment, but not the rest of it. :o It just drives me up the wall when peeps are always saying "add more batteries" etc etc etc.
Now I look like an idiot. Oh well.

Chaptorial, no shit, it's a real book. They give you mileage for cooking time. Wrap a roast in foil, wire it to your Comptech headers, and drive to grandma's house. You'll have to stop 1/2 there to flip it, but it'll be dinner time when you pull up in the driveway ![Big Grin](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Nah,Don't worry, you don't. With a handle like proaudio, I'm sure you get the "add more batteries" comment more often then you'd like (If you had a nickle for every time...). I was afraid that I didn't put enough smilies in the post ![Big Grin](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I've got a 1500W inverter that I've got to install in my 79 VW camper (see sigline), but it'll run off the aux. battery. I've gotta replace the old big ass interstate deep cell with a newer optima before I power it up.
If you use an inverter to power something like the forman grille or a elec. heater, make sure you have the car running. 750w isn't that much for a running vehicle, but it'll kill the battery real quick if you're parked w/ the car off. If you cook with the car off we'll be reading a "why won't my car start" post real quick.

FYI heating elements don't give a birds butt about the waveform of the power as long as it's there. Heh, you could power a heating element with a square wave.
If your going to do this just make sure your car is running because if you have the engine off you battery will be good as dead, requiring a jump.

Just tear up your passenger seat a bit to expose the seat heater element, and use that to cook whatever you gotta cook. If you play with the element itself a bit, you can make it whatever shape and size you need!

Am I right in remembering that our cars can't fit a larger alternator and that our only option was to send the alternator out to Ohio Generator for re-winding?
If not, I need a different alternator that can keep up with my draw. Is there anyone that has found one that would work? Or any more info on the OHIO re-wind? Thanks
