Gateshifting...Damage Tanny?

does gateshifting (going from d1 to d2, d3, not SS) damage your transmission? its really good for people who dont have the 6spd to get a good jump of the line. SS shifts outa 1st for you to early and there is a momentary lasp of power.

it depends on how much you do it. if you do it every time you race yes your gonna make your transmission . if you do it once in a rare occassion(and I still don't recommend you doing this) you'll probably be okay.

the reason I know this I Had a friend in high school he had a trans am(I know it's a GM product) with a small block in it. I always told him either bolt up a stick tranny or leave it in drive. he didn't listen to me and nuked his transmission and had to get a new tranny

I've been gate shifting in normal driving conditions about 70% of the time for the last 15K miles or so... *knock on wood*

I gateshift at the track and in "normal" driving conditions. Before y'all blame that for the trannies goin' bye-bye, #1 went before I ever started going to the track or gateshifting. #2 was put in before the problem was "fixed" by Acura. We'll see if the problems really have been fixed.

ShittyShift sucks IMO!!

I've been gateshifting for "NORMAL" driving for the past two years now. 187th car off production line, original tranny, 58K. I never start out in D5 anymore, D3, D4, then to D5 once I'm well over 65 mph.
I don't race......hope this helps your concern......

I understand some advantages of gate shifting for drag racing purposes so you can get more out of our first gears. But was is the advantage of gate shifting in normal everyday driving?

Seems very pointless to me? Can someone shed some light?

For merging between the horrible highways and ramps here in MA and NH. Makes it a little more fun!

CLS2001.......In "Normal" driving the Tourqe Converter is worked to death, thus resulting in "premature" wear, thus resulting in tranny failure ! Yes my gas mileage is NOT as good, but I prefer the quicker "non TC" gears, which are 1st, 2nd and 3rd ! 4th and 5th are TC gears and that is part of the problem with our transmissions, so I've been told by my mechanic.....

I rarely use SS ! Change tranny oil every 15,000 miles, NOT 60K as quoted in the manual.

I use D3 until I get to 50mph. At 50 it hit D4 and then around 70 I go to D5. There's a lot more power when you need it. I just can't see being in 5th gear at 50.

Oh yeah, Still on Tranny # 1!

Ditto Red CL ! Except I go to 40 - 45 in 3rd, 50 a little high rpms and you really kissing the gas mileage away.......kick it down 5-10, but always start off in D3 till at least 40 mph.

I go to D5 at 60mph+. The car seems to want to stay in 5th even when you're doing 40, and the revs seem really low then. I stay in d4 the rest of the time.
