Front Turn Signals & Reflector Bulb...

I've searched this day in & day out and haven't really come to the conclusion I'm looking for. So here's the deal; I'm going to be getting my headlights cleared quite soon. Upon completion, the bulbs that are currently residing in my housing will need to be inhaled by the dumpster, or what not. Now, to me, I feel us CL owners here have a problem. The way that our headlight is assembled is that we have 2 corner bulbs: 1 is in the reflector, 1 is the turning signal. HOWEVER, they are both ON when the headlights are on. This means, they are always lit up as amber, which looks tacky to me. I would LOVE to have both of those to be hyper white, nonetheless, I'd be sacrificing the amber color when my turning signal came on (not ). I hate cars that when their blinker is on, it's flashing white...it's stupid. I want my blinker to BLINK amber. Again, that means that the bulb would have to be lit up amber all the time. SO...what I have seen so far is that the turning signals are 1157 bulbs. People have gotten the PIAA 1157 Xtreme White bulbs, and I have also seen that you can get 1157 LEDS? Can you just put the LEDS in like a normal bulb, or does it require some modification? Problem with those bulbs is that I'll have hyper white blinkers as well. Then, I saw
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/APC504129B
These supposedly look clear in the day, so they dont reflect orange, but they remain amber when lit up, and when they blink. That is another option. Are there any other options that I can explore?

Next is the reflector bulb. I've read that its a 168 bulb (whatever the hell that is). Now on optauto, they have a few PIAA 168 bulbs:

PIAA 168 LED HIGH INTENSITY BULB: WHITE (PAIR)
Item#: PIA-19263

PIAA 168 SUPER WHITE BULB (PAIR)
Item#: PIA-19168 (5w)

PIAA 168 PLATINUM SUPER WHITE BULB (PAIR)
Item#: PIA-19169 (5w)

PIAA 168 XTREME WHITE (PAIR)
Item#: PIA-19172 (5w)

Which would be the best bet to be closest to the HID color? Like hyper white I guess? Would the PIAA LED bulb be a regular pop in bulb like the others, just brighter?

THEN, I also saw that you can put in a W2 bulb instead of a 168?! I'm so confused. For the W2 there is this PIAA which is 18w

PIAA T16/W2 BULB: Xtreme White (Pair)
Item#: PIA-19224

Ohhh, what do I do Almighty Light God's?

I hope this helps other people out by getting some extra questions answered.

`John

since the turn signal bulb is dual filament, i thought of trying to disable one of the filaments by taking the wire out of the housing so that it would only blink amber and stay off when its not blinking. I never actually attempted this because i got lazy but i tried searching around a while ago (probably close to a year) and i couldn't find any cheap bulbs that match the color of the headlamps. As for the tiny reflector bulb, i just took it out and left it like that. hope that helps

Pick up a pair of these APC 1157 Bulbs. They look silver when off but blink amber when on. I've got em and they work great. You can get them at Pep Boys.

i have been looknig to do this too since i just got my headlights cleared. i have the clear reflector in place of the amber one so im just going to leave that section w/o a bulb. some people said to try to cover up one of the nubs or nipples or w/e on the bulb. that may possibly let the bulb light up ONLY when you put your turn signal.

ok so...get the apc 1157 bulbs for the 2 turn signals....what about the reflector bulb? I know they are 168's, but where can I get 168's that are silver finish that shine amber, like the 1157 apc's?

I'm assuming that getting a hyper white bulb in the reflector area would look tacky with the amber bulb?

If I could have my headlights to look like anything, it would be like this:

is that possible?

well in order to do that you would need to have a super white bulb which matches the hids perfectly. If you go out there and find the brights polargs you can find, they'll probably match the stock hids ok. For the wedge bulb, piaa has this led bulb that is surprisingly really white. However, if you 6000k or above hids, you probably won't find anything to match those.

for the wedge bubl... you can also use a 921 bulb... i know it'll work with the harness, im just not sure if the bulb is too big to fit in the hole.

Its def possible... Mines pretty close to that besides the fact that I have the black housings, I have 1157 LED SuperWhites in the turnsignals and 168 wedge LED SuperWhites in the parking lights (Reflector Light or whatever your calling them). I dont have a pic of it at nite but ill try and take one when I get home and Ill post it up here.

To answer your other question: "awesome, thanks jonesi. How about this:

Would I be able to just leave the bulb out where the reflector bulb is?"

Yes.. Just make sure to put the bulb holder/harness back in to seal the headlight.

Ya I wish the turn signal bulb would only light up when blinking... and not stay orange the whole time when the HIDs are on. Would be interesting to see the results of anyone that modifies the dual filament.

I bought 2 silver bulbs that blink amber on ebay. They have a nice chrome look and look great in the front turn signal housing but they are not bright enough at all. All you can see is mostly just the filament lighting up. I took it out and put my amber glass bulb back in.
Next I'm going to try the Silverstar bulbs. They are not totally silver but look pear;ized.
I'm hoping they are as bright as stock

My link above is shot for some reason.

Just go to www.pepboys.com

Go to shop online

Type in APC 1157 and it will be the top choice.

Thanks, Chap. I did look at the PB website earlier. I also looked at the Sylvania silverstars at a store here, but they are not truly silver, more a see thru pearlized amber.
I'll go for the APCs. My turn signals are not cleared but it looks better with the silver bulbs instead of stock.

Man! My car's got more silicone in the headlights than Pam Anderson.

Actually that is the only part I'm worried about, but I did put them in the bathroom with the shower on as hot as it would go, and no steam got in. It rained the day after I did them too, and no fog yet.

I'm sure the seals would be prettier if you had done them, but I wanted the satisfaction of sayin that I did them myself.
