Most insurance companies will pay a reasonable tow to another shop but you will have to consult with your company. If I were you I would get on the phone now with the shop and tell them not to start the work and talk to the claims department and tell them you want it sent somewhere else I wouldn't wait to talk with your agent. If the shop starts the work on your car the ins company will be very reluctant to send it somewhere else and some shops won't want finish what another shop started for fear of being held liable work not done correctly.

x2, as long as it is fully paid off, like you don't owe any money on it, to say a bank (otherwise the bank has the autherization to start the work)

x2, as said your car, and your insurance just happens to be footing the bill

depends on your insurance and such, so you have to look into that

let alone, kinda a pain in the ass to be able to find all the correct bolts and such with where they go, and making sure all the parts are there to start with

still awaiting phone call. Regarding the bodyshop, they already started working on it about two weeks ago, so I just have to wait for them to call me (which they said they will on this Friday). They sent me a "supplement estimate" after the first estimate. The second one pushed the total $$ to 2800.

I have no idea why they can't just total the car...it's been 3 weeks...

They can't total it because the damage cost is only a fraction of what your car is worth.

normally the will total it when the repair are some where between 70-90% of the value of the car (depending on the insurance)(and not exact figures so don't qoute me, just trying to remember from memory)

It was 70%. Still, the numbers don't quite add up in my mind..the total estimate just sounds so off...afterall, all they did was change the headlights and "detail" the interior...they did nothing to any electrical system/engine according to the estimate...

$2,800 x %70 = $1,960.

$1,960 + $2,800 = $4,760.

-$2,800 being %70 of the cost of your car would mean your car is only worth $4,760. I think your car is worth much more than that

Yea I know 2800 isn't "enough" for total. But they are still finding more stuff to fix, which is getting added to the total estimate. They started at 2000, and went up little by little to 2800. so if it happens to go up to ~4000 range,

Oh, and I meant they total the car when the estimate is 70% or higher, not 2800 was 70%. ^^

got my car back today. feels a bit stiff (accel/handle) Ignition takes a bit longer (still one crank, just that starting noise goes on a bit longer).

I guess I should ride it a couple days, then see if they correct itself. Or maybe use the seafoam?(would that help?)

One weird thing. It says that it doesn't have the navigation cd/the unit is open, but I know the CD is in there. It just ain't reading it. O.o

I can tell you off the bat that your ignition is normal. It's just taking longer to start cause your car has been sitting for so long and the battery is weaker.

One thing I usually do is turn the ignition to the on position and wait for the pump to prime. Then start. It usually starts up quicker.

With the stock fuel system it may be tough to hear, but usually counting to 3 is good enough.

^ Yea, I usually wait till all the "ding ding ding" noise goes away. Maybe after driving it around a bit more, it'll fix itself. After all, I was in rental for almost a month <.<
