This year...is just rough...

literally a week after getting the tranny fixed, my car prolly gonna get totaled due to water damge













I guess when it rains...it rains a WHOLE ****LOAD AT ONCE

Actually, that happened after the car died while turning. I mean it was raining, but no puddle formed when I turned. Then after my car died, seconds after, water started rushing in, then all cars panicked, and it left two other cars dead (hydrolocked?) by then, my car was submerged.

I'm guessing one of the sewers or water hole got screwed up...

the picture was taken after the water level went *DOWN* didnt have time to think for anything...calling insurance, talking with the school security, cops blocking the intersection later and stuff...

 

if u didnt turn it on u should be ok

died prior to getting submerged. if I didn't start the car (i took the keys out), the car shouldn't be hydrolocked right?

 

Do you have a cai that intakes below the fenderwell? If not odds are the stock intake didn't suck up any water especially if you didn't have it running or try to start it after submerging it. Engine should be fine I'd be worried about electrical components shorted/fried. Make sure it's good and dry before you try to start it again.

 

I do have a cai, and the water was up to the pedals. I got it towed away, and is now at the shop. Insurance will probably send people to inspect it & stuff.

Where's the cai actually intake at? does it dip down into the fenderwell? or is it just a length of tube moving the intake a little further away from the engine?

 

Its basically right behind the "road lamps". As far as I can tell...it was submerged in water, since water level was pretty damn high.

 

Dont drive thru puddles that high especially with CAI

Good thing I got a AEM Bypass, but then again, I would think twice about driving around in that kind of water.

And people were saying it's a bad idea.. pff.. I'll take if off when it's March. -o-;

 

Damn that sucks, if i see water on the road like that i stop and reverse the other direction. Noway I would try to drive thru that.

thats sucks, but does seem to be your OWN fault though for even thinking about being able to make it through there, and attempting to; cars are not boats afterall

but yes the motor should be all right, if YOU shut it off yourself, and has not been attempted to be restarted till the plugs are pulled out to make sure the cylinders are clear of water (water goes up the exhaust once shut off) (also if it does happen to be fixed, make sure ALL fluids are changed out on the car, to make absolutly none have water in them)

and it is still proably totaled, but it may have a chance considering it does not look like it got that high inside
might be worth it to buy back, considering no sheet metal is bent, then go to an auction and buy yourself a donor car for the interior parts (be time for a black interior conversion ; black on black )

 

Meh, I think people have a hard time understanding that water came in after I got stuck. water was up to the door, couldn't open the car from outside. It was like, me getting stuck -> Water level comes up ridiculously high -> water goes down.

Insurance sent me a dodge charger as my rental. I really hope they can get this thing over with ASAP.

 

yeah because you stopped moving when you were in a deep enough part, so you stopped creating a wake, which was keeping the water level low enough to keep the water out and stuff (how the wake kinda speads after created)

still should not have ever attempted it, even if you must, should have made sure you had a clear patch on the other side before you had even started to go

Nope. Insurance still "looking at it". They said it'll take about a week..and its been about 5 days...

Water was almost to the level of the seats (almost above the seat), I doubt it'll be repairable.

Some update from insurance. After almost two weeks of nothingness, I called the insurance, the automated message tells me "Payment has been issued"

I was like...eh? so I called the agent, seeking more information. He tells me:

We sent the check to the bodyshop, and they'll repair the car. The total quote was $2200, and you'll just have to pay the deductible (500) and the shop will let you know once they are ready.

Now...I'm wondering...isn't that a bit too cheap? I mean the water was up to the seats' level, and when I opened the door when the water was out, water was rushing out. I expected way more damage (above $2200).

Is that something I should question?

During this whole process, the insurance hasn't called me after I put in the claim. They never told me they were going to repair the vehicle, nor did the body shop told me what was wrong with the car.

Aren't they supposed to notify me of things like this?

Is it possible for me to go to the agent and push for this car being totalled? or at least for them to do a more thorough inspection of the car?

looks like they are just gonna clean and dry out the car and only replace the first couple things on that list

 

First off you should have been kept in the loop on the decision as to where to take your car for repairs its your right to choose which shop. Secondly the shop cannot legally start repairs on your car without your authorization if they do I would consult an attorney.

If I want to have the car repaired elsewhere, (not this bodyshop), would I have to pay for the towing of this car to another bodyshop?
