Failed State Inspection!

Well my dealer Pohanka offers life time free state inspection so I had my gf drive me 25 miles to the dealer to get my state inspection. I wait 30 min and I see a rejected sticker on my window OMG!!

well the reason? blue headlights in highbeam. So the service guy said go home or just got buy new ones put them in, he'll give me the pass sticker and after that I can just put it right back.

So I went to the service dept they said 9 dollar a bulb. I go to track auto down the street 13.99 a bulb So I go home get the bulbs and bring it back and the passed me. Right after the inspection they also put the blue back in for me.

SO for anyone getting state inspection done remember to take your blue lights out. well, atleast in VA

Was this because of your high beams or roadlamps(fog lights)?

Yeah, VA is full of communists... I actually sifted through the Code of VA last week (I work in a legal office, so it's at my desk all day) and found out what is legal, and what isn't. Apparently, aftermarket exhausts, or any muffler that changes the SOUND of your stock exhaust system, creating "unusual or excessive noise" is illegal. Additionally, make sure your car is at least 14 inches off the ground from the top of your bumper, or else THAT'S illegal. Don't ever drive with both your fog lights and brights on at the same time; only four road illuminating lights are allowed on at once, so including your regular headlights, you have to choose between fogs and brights.

And radar detectors are illegal, but they can't take them away from you, and you don't get demerit points on your license; you just have to pay a fine.

Yeah, VA has some real tight laws.

Ever been to Virgina Beach?
Talk about stiff and uptight.

Can't even drive the strip (Atlantic Ave.) without getting heckled by cops for excessive cruising. WTF

...but still no emissions tests which used to save my azz on some older cars I used to own when I lived down there. They nail your pipes to the wall here in Pa. I hear NJ is worse!!

I got mine inspected at local Honda dealer and it took about five minutes. I asked him how come so quick and he said it was a new car so the inspections are quick.

Live in Cali...in particular, Sacto or LA and you get dyno'd for your smog tests...meaning almost anything will get you a fail. Be happy you don't live in Cali...everything is illegal here.

In NY, you have to get your car on the dyno and do the smog test too. It all depends on the mechanic. Some will fail you for having worn wiper blades, headlight beam not aligned, etc. Some are out to make a buck and others are just covering their a$$.

I live in Va Beach. It sux. when I first got my car, I figured I would go down to the strip and show off my new baby. I got pulled over almost immediatly and told that "MY BLUE HEADLIGHTS ARE ILLEGAL"!!!!When I told the stupid pig that I just bought the car a few hours ago and that are stock headlights he got pissed at me for argueing with him. Then he kindly informed me that a "kid" my age could not possibly buy a "$40,000 plus car" and it must belong to my parents. This turned into quite a seen and before long he had to radio 2 more cops. As it turns out one of the cops (Officer Cheecham) was a big Honda enthusiast and was able to inform Gomer F*CKING Pile that my headlights were indeed stock on my $30,000 plus car. I also called my sales man on my cell phone to inform Officer Pile on whom actually laid down the dough for my CL. What a dumbass.
Anyway, I was very much in touch with Virginia law when I had my Integra. I had to be, technically it wasn't even close to street legal. Virginia law states a lot of little bullshit laws but none in my opinion more ridiculous than the one that states: No street legal automobile shall have any part other than what is original eguipment manufacturer (OEM) installed. Are you kidding me? ANY part? HAHA, by Virginia law you can not replace your Michelin tires with BFG's. OH well I'm gonna stop. VA sux

joe, joe, joe, you should have told me. I failed for the same shit, but went to Radley and they passed me with the blue high beams, and clear turn signal bulbs. Even with my fogs not turning off at high beam.

If I recall correctly, the PIAA Superwhites I put in my TL's fogs are DOT approved, and should pass any state inspection.

If they say DOT legal, then they should be legal.

It's either Federal or State folks! One or the other!

Sheesh =)

doesn't matter, state to state varies, you should see pa inspection laws, no license plate frames, tint (any % used to fail, they changed that last year) wipers, fog lamps so many inches high, and apart, all sorts of stuff, id cards, ins reg, have to match vin, and be for the right car, no headlamp, tailamp covers, no blue high beams, no cracked lens', and best of all no jagged metal

Come to Washington D.C. we have it real bad.
You can only have 75% tint side windows 50% rear unless it SUV or Mini Van with factory tint. They check brakes, tires, window panes inside door handles. They check horns suspension, steering wheels every light you have on the car except dome/trunk. They even check for body dents rust. This is every 2yrs.
It was every year for this stuff but they changed about 5yrs ago.

Man that's some bullshit! What a bunch of Gestapos out there. Here in Colorado we don't have any kind of inspections. You just get fucked with by cops sometimes.

No inspection? I hear thats also true in Maryland? Living here in Jersey one feels that places like Colorado and Maryland are places to die for.

Yeah, NOVA is pretty much all high tech, all gov or all gov. contractors. I know in 1998 it had the highest avg household income in the US. It was $88K. This was according to NPR. I don't know how well it is doing now. Its funny when I moved to the midwest and told them I was from VA, people asked me if they should speak to me a little slower. LOL.......I think NOVA is a culture of its own. Its not the real world.
