Electric Seats and heaters

I guess I should have payed more attention when I bought my CLS. Hmm.. When the salesman said DUAL electric seats and DUAL heated seats, I guess I should have known to ask exactly what is heated and what is electric.

After being in the passenger seat of my car last week ( no relation to the amount of alcohol consumed) I was gettin cold so I turned on the electric seat heater. I noticed that while my butt got warm, my back was still cold...hmmm The Drivers seat worked fine, so a call to the dealer instructed me to bring it in to verify that it didn't work. Hmmm Yeah, he said...it doesn't work. Never did either I guess, cause there is NO seatback heater on the passenger seat. Only the driver side has both seat and seatback heater elements. Hmmm

As for comfort though, I love the drivers seat cause I can kick the pitch of the seat way up and lay back and cruise... Can't do that with the passenger seat...No pitch adjustment... Like I said,,,I guess I should have checked all that when I bought it. Not listening to the salesman would have probably let me figure out all this before hand. I wonder if I would have still bought the car? Yeah..Hell YEAH I would have..but i would have bargained down even harder..Now if anyone else out there has a CL-S, 01, with a passenger seat that HAS a seatback heater..I would like to know...I could have sworn that mine used to work...lol

I posted a question regarding this a few days ago. I thought the pass. seat heated up on the back too in my 2002 CLS, but my girl told me I was nuts, and apparently she was right. Heats only the azz in the pass. seat.

I'm pretty sure that NO CL or TL has seat back warmers in the passenger seat. If I remember correctly this is due to the SRS.

The seat back heater would have interferred with sensor in the passenger seat that detects wether or not it is "save" to deploy the side air.

Not 100% sure on this so don't take my word as gold, but I think thats why the passenger seats don't have them.

Dude, what the fuk do you expect from 30K car? You know that in S600 Mercedes you not only get heated sits, you also get cooling seats which has many small fans blowing A/C air into your ass through the small pores to keep your ass cool in the hot summer.
Expensive cars also get Air back for passangers in the back seat, as well as head restrain for the driver, and heated sits in the back. Also you get a separate A/C compressor for rear/front of the car.
Also you can set different temperature in the front and back of the car.

for these thingies you got to pay more $ than for CLS

I think I remember it described in the sales brochure EXACTLY like that.

Re: Re: Electric Seats and heaters

Well to be blunt, I have been in other cars in that price range that supported the dual seat heaters...well maybe 40k...lol
Besides, my 88' 928s4 not only had dual 'complete' seat heaters, but pitch controls on the dual electrics too. Hell they even threw in adjustable lumbar support not only in the vloume that you pumped it up, but in the height of the lumbar support as well. That was the MOST adjustable car seat I ever had...Hmmm guess that did cost a bit more than 30 k though...lol... Hmm ...I Guess I just got used the idea that whatever went on one side of the car would also go on the other... The SRS sensor in the passenger side makes sense though..

Thanks..

Welcome to the board! Now RTFM!

The passenger seat does not have a heating element in the back because it would interfere with the detection sensor for the SRS (side airbag). If your passenger is not seated properly in the seat, the side airbag light will illuminate, letting you know that it will not deploy because it could potentially harm the occupant. This is not a defect; it's designed to work this way.

Now as for the adjustable seats.... The driver's seat is adjustable 8 different ways, but the passenger seat is only adjustable 4 ways, which explains why you can't adjust the pitch on the passenger side.

Hope this helps.

BTW, I see you're from Lancaster. I grew up in the Harrisburg area. What dealer did you get your car from? I didn't think central PA had any left.

The '99 TL was equipped with a fully heated seat on the passenger side .The CL was always equipped with the SRS side airbags and as was mentioned this precludes the use of the seat heater element in the backrest of the seat.Jens
