ECU for transmission?

Is there an ECU for transmission? I feel that the shifting point and such is different from my previous transmission after the swap. It shifts at unexpected point which makes it "un-smooth" when I drive. If there is an ECU, i am assuming it has adapted to the previous driver?

Yes the transmission is electronically controlled. The TCU(trans control unit) is separate from the transmission, just like the ECU is separate from the engine. So if you just swapped transmissions you should still have your TCU in place. It is possible that the TCU lost your style of driving while the battery was disconnected for the swap and probably needs to relearn how you drive. On a car as bad ass as the CL I'd think its starting point would be pretty smooth but I could be wrong.

When the dealer replaces your tranny I've been told they are also swapping the TCU with a bit less agressive shift points....

Yup, all dealership replaced transmissions come with a TCU replacement as well.
