Door Locks... Do They Lock Automatically

Michele keeps telling me how her doors lock automatically like 4 seconds after you put her CL-P into drive. I refused to believe this because i've owned my CL-S for 2 years and I know my car does not do this; ever. So Sunday night we take her car to dinner and sure enough I get in, car in drive, the doors lock! WTF?!

So what about the rest of you guys/gals? Michele's door locks are possessed, how about yours?

Can't remember. I got the alarm put in a week after I bought it. Of course with the viper alarm it does it.

If you unlock your car and get in or don't get in and don't start the engine w/i 30 seconds or so? the car will lock itself if you don't do anything. It's a timing deal. I though I had the self locking feature but it was just the fact I sat in the car for 30 or so seconds and started it contemporaneously with the auto lock feature.

I hate this feature. I have a shock sensor added so if I unlock the car & pop the trunk, & the car locks cause I didn't open a door, I close the trunk & the damn alarm goes off. Why doesn't opeing the trunk bypass the lock feature?? Dumb design.

The only way they lock themselves is if you unlock with the remote and then DON’T open the door.
They will automatically lock after 30 seconds as a precaution if you hit the remote by accident.
Once you physically open the door the locks stay open.

Maybe if you were sitting in the car with the door closed and pressed the UNLOCK button.
Then they might lock after 30-seconds.
Don’t know never tried that.
But then the alarm will probably set and go off when you open the door from inside.

my CL-P has no aftermarket alarm and the doors lock automatically. i think it may just be the passenger door, im not sure.

whenever im standing outside my car smoking a cig (i dont smoke in the car) i tend to leave the keys in to listen to the radio. and i ALWAYS make sure to open the window so i dont get locked out.

the car was not bought used either, it is the stock alarm for sure.

Question Door Locks

In some cars, the locks can be programmed to lock automatically. Besides my CL-s I had a company car (2000 Chrysler Concorde LXi). It came with power locks that could be programmed by the dealer to lock automatically when the car reached something like 8 mph in drive. It took the dealer less than 5 minutes to turn the auto lock option on.
Whether this is something few of us are experiencing or know about as an option on a CL-S sounds like something we should find out.

i want mine to lock, and after searching the forums all i could find was this by Gregory28 in the TL forums.

"Lore: This can be configured to unlock drivers door or all doors. In your Multi-Information Display mode. After toggling to MID, toggle to "Whenever Unlocking" and select "Driver door" or "All Doors"."

I don't know what the multi information Display mode is, but if someone does. pls post

Damn guys, I was just thinking about this the other day, wondering if our cars locked after you put it in drive and driving past a certain speed. "mrsteve" does Michelle have an aftermarket alarm or is she stock? If she's stock this needs to be investigated more cause i'm sure that a lot of us would like to have our cars auto-lock also.

The MID is in the new TL's

However, I'd love to know how to make my 02 TL-P's doors automagically lock when in drive and unlock in park.

I am super paranoid about locking my keys in the car. I only have one set.

Anyway, I believe they lock about 10 seconds after the car is turned on

I believe its stock. I did happen to buy this car when it was coming off of a lease though, so who knows what happened to it before hand.

Pretty easy mod to get the doors to lcok, if you tap the starter signal wire into the door lock circuit. I did it on my other car. You need to use a relay though, to isolate voltage from backfeeding into the starter circuit, when you manually lock the doors .

this has to be an aftermarket mod or item added to the system.

Basically the door locks are controlled by a switch, that when activated supplies 12 volts to a relay to either lock or unlock the door. By tapping into the starter signal wire, and routing this wire, through a relay or diode , of the proper rating to the side of the switch that locks the door.

You have to use a relay, or diode of the proper rating, in the circuit you are adding in, to prevent voltage from feeding backwards into the starter circuit. This will isolate the circuits, so that when you activate your door locks manually the starter motor doesn't crank.

The relay would need to be wired as follows;

Starter signal wire / To coil in relay

Ground wire / To the opposite side of the coil

Fused power from a constant 12 volt source / To the common terminal of the relay contact

Wire to the side of the switch that locks the door / To the Normaly open side of the contact

Edit;
Instead of using "Fused power from a constant 12 volt source," just tap power from the common side of the door lock switch.

Mine lock 55% of the time

My doors sometimes lock automatically when i turn the key in the ignition my '01 Type S. I haven't yet figured out the sequence of events that cause this to happen since it only happens about half the time - and there are no aftermarket mods on mine I've had it since it was new in July 2000.

funny thing!! my cars both my 01 and now 03 cls never locked by themselves until I just had my tranny changed by the dealer.. Now all of the sudden when I start the car the doors lock. Maybe there was some sort of software update on the car's computer.. I don't know.. but I am leaning toward electrical issues with the repairs. My 05 TL has auto locking / unlocking, but this is fully documented and can be set in a whole bunch of different scenarios.

The doors lock when the car is started automatically!!!!! after 2 years and 1 trip to the dealership for a new tranny and idle switch.

My '95 Accord would lock itself when I'd start the car (5-speed). I just went and played with my CL-S, and it doesn't do that.

I've had Accords every two years from 1993, and an 02 TL, and none of them have ever had auto locking doors.

solution to doors locking automatically

I took it to the dealer and they told me my battery was not good. It is 2 years and some months old. I didn't believe them, but I bought a new battery at costco and it resolved the door locking issue.

Change your battery and the problem goes away..
