door leakage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
door leakage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey just curious if anyone has had this problem or know what could be the problem? I had a new speaker installation and one day I took the speaker out of my car and noticed that there was water dripping out underneath it. So I got the leak fixed from Acura. Then, I put the speaker back in blabhlalabalhba and then I noticed it happening again. I thus got it fixed one more time. I kept the speaker out of the door just in case it leaked again. While I was driving tonight I noticed another leak coming through the empty speaker whole in my door and it was getting water all over the place. (this was in a tremendous heavy rainstorm) Now I know water is suppossed to leak somewhat through the door, and that more water would be leaking out of it due to the empty hole but it still doesnt seem right. I already had one speaker destroyed from this so I don't want to let it happen again.
The guy who fixed this at the dealership didnt notice any obvious leaks from the door. He said that it may be due to the water inside the door hitting speaker wires or something of that nature, so therefore he then taped the wires to the door. So that seemed all fine and dandy until tonight. I'm scared to death to put these new speakers in cause they were very expensive and water damage is not covered in the warranty. The water must somehow be getting in between the two metal panels forming the door, because water is coming out of the speaker hole, not dripping down all over it.
I know it is very difficult to tell what coudl be going on with just the information that I have told you, as I can't even figure it out, nor can the dealership, when they get to work on the car firsthand. My car is a 2001 Acura CL-S if that makes any difference. If anyone has any opinion on what is going on or have had this experience happen to them in the past please let me know. Thanks for all of yalls help.

yes i noticed the same thing while my door panel was off....i believe water slips down between the window cracks. because it just flowin in, and i pressed against the window and it stopped it. It may be from somewhere else in youre situation but that was my problem was, it freakin blows. i never would have thought that happened until i rode around gutted for awhile. I would just electrical tape the hell out of it. maybe find something to cover the speaker
My car has been in the shop for a drivers door leak like 4 or 5 differnt times. On the last visit, they replaced a couple of seals that seemed to do the trick.
I noticed my leak after the service dept. put in a new window regulator under warranty. It figures that it was dealer caused...
I noticed it because every time I washed the car the bottom of the speaker grille was soaking up water and staining it, then I noticed standing water inside the lower door pocket as well as water sitting on the plastic door sill. It's all fixed now... FINALLY!

yes, I first noticed water coming out of the bottom of the door panel below the speaker. The second time I didn't notice anything until I took the speaker out and found standing water in the speaker well. This time the hole was wide open so water just gushed right in!
The thing that ticks me off is that the people who "specialize" in this field have said that they can't see any place where the door might be leaking. It is definately caused by somewhere around the windowsill area because water is leaking into the open pocket between the metal frames of the door and then out the speaker well. I mean everyone is nice when I take the car in and what not and the guy calls me personally and talks to me while he's doing it and all that sort. I'm just freaked out that I will destory another speaker, and I will always have my doubts that whenever they say that the leak should be fixed, it may in fact not be.

The speaker was hitting the piece of plastic when the music was just loud enough, thus resulting in a terrible woofer cone vs. plastic bag effect. Idiots!
Needless to say, I took out the plastic and took the car back to them. The way I see it, I'm not gonna have the car long enough for a hole to form from rust. If anything shorts out in the door (like window switches, SPEAKERS, etc.) I'll be taking it back again and they'll be fixing it... AGAIN!
Sorry, discussing Acura's service gets me fired up. They irritate me with a passion.
I just noticed this the other day on my passenger door. When I open the door, it sticks a little, and there are little spots on the door trim (slight water mark on the inside speaker grille as well).
Time to call the dealership I suppose.
I thought this was a rare thing. Not happy to find that it isn't.

I've got the same thing going on in my car.... It's been happening for a while and I've replaced my factory speakers. The water is starting to get an orangish tint, which means rust
Eh, I'll be getting a new TL soon anyway! Gotta get it fixed though

Guys this is an easy one ....
A few years ago when the dealer washed my car after of course telling him "no thanks" to the "free car wash" I noticed the wet area on the bottom of the speaker grille inside the door. The I noticed that the flexible black rubber seal strip at the top of the door where the window goes into the door was "twisted" , or folded out of shape, easily letting the water into the interior of the door panel. It just had to be "untwisted" and that's it. Not the whole length of the door strip, just a small 2 inche section right above where the speaker was was "out of shape".

well thats not the only problem with the first gen cls anyway if the seals arent twisted its because the person who designed the door put the hole to let the water out to far back under the door panel so water stores up near the speaker area.
So what u mite want to do is get a small drill bit and drill a hole from underneath the door up into the door near the end of the door more underneath the speaker. maker sure to paint the edges of the hole so they dont rust later on i did that and never had the problem again but i only noticed this problem after a really bad rainstorm and not driving the car for 3 days during the storm which caused water to store up.

i just don't want to take any chances once i place these new speakers in my car.....has anyone been able to file complaints for against acura???..like for example one of my speakers was ruined after i had put it back in after i had taken in the car already to get the leak repaired??...is there any way i can make them pay for repairs???
talked to the guy who fixes this stuff and he said something about the splash shield... and how it may be inadequate to hold out water for speakers larger than the factory ones....so he's going to have to do some special where he raps around the splash shield and extends it inside the door...
well the guy told me that it was more of a preventative measure than something to fix the current leak....also during the install we're putting a baffle around it so that should help with the reverberation...so i'm not sure if putting another thing over top of that will hurt it all that much...but i'll definately run it across with the installers and the person who will fix the leak....thanks...
the guy did build a custom splash shield and then once the speakers were turned on you could hear them flapping in the back...nice call....so now we're looking for some styrofoam to put back there....
haha so now the guy is attempting to place some sort of plastic bowls around the back of the speakers and then seal that...he said the leak was most likely coming through a half inch gap in the weatherstripping at the front of the door...basically because the weatherstripping was cut too short when they made the car...and I guess after i put the aftermarket speakers in it, the stuck out a bit more than the stock, so the water would just run right through...not over top
Kinda makes me mad cause this is the third time i've taken it to the dealership for this leak...and its the first time that someone has finally said it was the weatherstripping...not the splash shield...and has attempted to actually build some sort of custom thing around it...now I have a ruined pair of speakers (not the new ones I got at least but still, I had to buy new ones) and watermarks on the speaker mesh covers..
hopefully it all gets fixed soon though...would any of yall think that I could somehow get acura to pay for the repair of the speakers???

UGHHHHHH...well the ghettorigging of the bowls of course didn't work..sounded like crap...so now i'm down almost 400 bucks and i still don't have a fixed leak...the guy who works at the place seems dumbfounded how all speakers don't get ruined...he says water is suppossed to go through the car door..what i don't get is if that is the case why don't ALL Cars have this problem???? Makes no sense. There is no way ACURA will build doors that have water rushing through them. I understans water drainage and whatnot but the guy seems to make this sound normal. SO NOW i'm taking the car into tomorrow for the same guy to take out the stupid plastic bowls and then attempt to fix the leak.
If anyone has knowledge of water drainage inside doors and how that works and all that please let me know. ANY information would be extremely helpful.

HAHAH +1 for the "Hondas trim is shit" club
when i wash my car and dry her off...if i slam one of the doors, soap will come out of my window trims..also...after my wash on a nice day i roll down the windows, and when i roll them up what do i see....WATER...and HAHAH to the custom plasitc/styrofoam inserts...acura is improvising

damn, I just installed new components and I see water coming out of the speaker area on the passenger side. and actually I noticed the driver door speaker had some moisture underneath where the spacer meets the door. have no warranty. what to do? anyone know what acura does to fix this shit besides the weird plastic pieces Lord Helmet was talking about that make speakers sound like poop?
