I took a ride in a 10 sec Grand National once on the Sawmill River Pkwy. The guy that owned it went by "Sarge" and I met him at Turbo People, while picking up a friend's car.
Sarge had slicks on the back and skinnies on the front, and hit it HARD on the Sawmill. I was shocked....I had never felt the power of a 10 sec car before. That shit was BADASS!

I agree with Tom - the turbos sticking out of the hood is pretty ricey. That GN is not running the stock 3.8 block that's for sure!
I've had the chance of owning a 87' GN with minor bolt-ons and a TE 62 turbo - and it ripped hard.
I've also had the chance to ride in a 10.0 GN and it pulled like a freight train. At that time he was the fastest stock block GN on the West Coast with a PT 70 turbo.

the supra is better off racing from a roll.

lol funny I raced one. Basically once the turbo kicked in he left me. After that we were gooooing around a sweeping turn about 90 plus I was still accelerating and he could not hang. Straight line I get spanked...... any corners or mild corners I get to do some spankin.... After that we stopped and talked... both cars had mutual complements.... dont get me wrong, in no way am I haten'

the supra is a much newer car. we must remember...the last GN was built in 87 ( i think ). mattg is right. i assume he is talking about the supras being slow out of the hole and faster at the top end. THAT GN has it all. the earth quakes when that car is at idle... full throttle sounded like the fucking airport. no jap car in 87 could fuck with a GN. i know that for sure. i give my to the GN.

In 87' yea...American Muscle was still ruling the scene, not until a little later when the import scene exploded. DBOX, I think matt's really talking about the launch, not speed. But the GN would have more low end, so I agree with you...
Mattg, i'm guessing the supra would be better off suited for twistys with the IRS. Can you explain to me the diff. between their rear suspensions, or have any articles on it?

that gn would destroy a supra in street race.

It's cute how this one pulls into the garage and the turbos in the hood and the front grille make a face at you that looks like what a scared passenger would look like.

Yeah, here's that same twin-turbo GN "hooking up" at the track
Doesn't look like it hooks up so great to me.....

Also could be a bad run, or someone who doesn't know how to drive it
It takes awhile to setup the suspension to deal with that kinda HP. Not to mention tranny brake, bloost controller, and tires/gearing/torque converter... yadda yadda.
You can also make a CLS (manual) look stupid on the track too...

I bought a 1986 T-Type new in June 1986.
car has 86,000 miles on it now, still running strong.
best time at Milan 11.21 @126mph
As far as hooking up. This was done with 255/60/15 Mickey Thompson cheater slicks, fully a street tire.
Problem with the car is that it does not stop or turn.
They all had drums in the rear and the brakes would completely fade after a 100-0 stop. I used to come to a stop and have smoke bellowing from the front stock pads.
Mods are minimal with Kenne bell headers 3" downpipe and dual 2.5" exhausts, 4:11 rear end gear. GNX stabilizer, which is a small ladder that hooks the frame to the rear end, assymetrically.
Stock frame is twisted., You can see small wrinkles in the sheetmetal above the rear valet window on sides.
