Does anyone know the specs/performance stats on a Cop car?
planning to out run one?
Well i got pulled over awhile back and i was talking to the cop about his cruiser.. the cop was cool, and he said it was about as fast as his 96 vette that he has... i think that BS but you never know.

For the most part they are the equivalent of the last gen Impala SS ... 350 w/auto tranny.. usually have a bit more work .. but all are usually arounf 0-60 in 7.0 and 1/4 in low 14's. some depts still got "pursit cars" which hauls ass... generally modded 350 that can do close to 160mph ...
hehe .. no no.. not gunna be drag racing a cop car ANY time soon (or ever for that matter).
I was just curious .. low 14's eh? I thought the stock Impala SS ran the 1/4 in mid-15's?

The SS Impalas were generally mid 15's but the cruisers have some added ponies as part of a "Police Package" that GM offers to them. also If ya live in a small town, community, or west virginia there are a lot of cruisers that are modded n ive seen a few with juice in em... but never with state police cars though...

I talked to a cop a while back that was partolling one of the super meets I went to.
Anyhow.. he said that they don't mod the cars anymore like they used to because they have enforced the no chase policy in a lot of places so they don't need the power anymore. Instead, they use helicopters and their radios to catch criminals.

true that ... A few inncoent people got wrecked by copz in "hot pursuit" and sued the ballz out of the city... so its discouraged to pursue at high speeds ... helicopter and radios will always be faster !@!
Food for thought....
Top speed of avg cruiser is ~135 mph (can only hold for about 10 miles until it runs out of gas
)
According to my friend in the Indy State Police, a police spec Camaro will do over 170 mph.
Now, 135 may sound slow. Here's one more figure:
Approximate speed of RF transmissions: .997c, or 99.7% of the speed of light.
What mods do YOU have?

Actually few are standard.. they are all part of "Police Packages" that include "higher-output v6" (new butt-ugly impala) but for the older ones 95% are 4.8L - 5.7L V8's with options.... btw most are also sent out to shops or motorcade to be modified with lights/paint/engine & tranny beef ups</STRONG>

I know this because the CHP and Sheriff's Department run a "Beat the Heat" program at Sears Point...the cops go down with lights blazing and clock 16s.
