DIY: AEM V2 intake installed on a CL-S.

1. Buy V2 intake for CL-P for 40 bucks + shipping on ebay.
2. Cut out two inches of pipe between the little nipple hole and the mounting bracket.
3. Attach the intake back together with pipe coupler.
4. Plug and play.

I do have a pretty big problem though. the stock intake feeds three tubes, the main one going to the throttle body, the small rubber tube that goes to the back of the engine, and the hard metal tube that goes to the front. I dont have a hole in the intake to plug in the metal one that goes to the front of the engine. What am i supposed to do with this? there is only one nipple hole on the v2 to plug in the hoses. Does the cl-p only have one tube that runs to the intake?

That problem aside, the intake is great. It makes the engine sound amazing and can definitely feel it. At least its louder and makes me feel like i am going faster.

Ill post pictures tomorrow.

unless you hook up the cables that run to the ECU, which i believe voids CARB approval

1. Was the intake used/abused? I think i paid like 260 shipped for my V2
2. post some pics; i'm curious to see what it'll look like rigged up on a CL-s
3. sound clips too perhaps? the intake sounds pretty sick on my CL-pee i wonder if it's similar on your car

First of all, how do you get a $40 V2 CAI on ebay first?

I dont know if you will be able to see it but here is the link.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB....cWON.m313.lVI

It was in good condition. I got it for 42 plus shipping. It made it a little easier to justify cutting up the 300$ intake. It sounds beastly on the cls. Ill try and record an mp3.

damn good find, you could have a nipple welded in, or just drill it, tap it (threads) and screw one in. (cheapest way) Make sure you use some teflon tape on the fitting so that it is air tight. Thats a helluva deal you got.

you might want to throw another filter on there; that one looks pretty thrashed

You realize the V2 reduces to 2.75" where it joins the throttle body so you are giving away a lot of power through reduced airflow (TypeS TB is 3")

that "hard Tube" is the oil breather...go to autozone and grab an oil breather filter ($10)and attach it to the side of the crankcase that the tube leads to...and yes u will loose power with the v2 on a type s...i made the same mistake...UNLESS u cut the 2.75" piping off widen the hole on that attches to the 4" tube and weld a 3" tube to it...

Pics and Video of my DIY: AEM V2 chopped and screwed on a CLS

Sorry moderators for starting the new thread, i just thought everyone should see this engineering marvel.

Problems solved. You guys are gonna laugh when you see what I did, but I guarantee my intake sucks more than yours. I also replaced the old nasty bent filter with a new one.

ok here is my first setup, notice the oil breather tube (i think thats what its called) is not plugged to anything and is just chilling there.

here is the piece i sectioned out and where i recoupled the intake:

then i thought, ive already cut this 300$ intake to pieces, why not go all the way? check out the "cutting edge technology" of the V2, not so cool when its laying in pieces on the sidewalk:

Then i stretched the top part of the stock airbox system over the massive 4inch v2 pipe so that i could reuse the stock tube inlets and also not impede the 3 inch throttle body. This way there is a smooth transition from the 4 inch V2 to the throttle body:

Ziptied FTW, i still might try to find a better and more longterm way to utilize the mounting bracket, but till then:

Its not the prettiest thing, but damn if it doesnt suck some air.
Here is a video of me putting my work to use, listen to that VTECH engine ROARRRRRR!

That video is better than porn. Its a CL-sexy sounding engine. Now all i need to do is get some used comptech headers, rims, new tires, a supercharger/turbo, transmission cooler, those acura race pedals, and 100 other parts costing 1000s of dollars.

i'll tell you this much, without the proper bracket, you're gonna have a hole in the backside of the intake very soon..

cool i did wht u did. but after a while (1 yr) i just had to get me a regular aem cai
i had issues with my hood clearance since after i cut it i joined it at the elbow with a 3.5 inch flexible rubber tubing frm a truck i suppose .. and fastened it on both ends.

i dont see much of a diffrence at all in the v2 and regular aem cai performance wise on the cl - s

It was a BITCH to stretch on, but it is definitely there for good. I would have to use two hands to pull it back off.

It doesn't knock around at all inside the engine compartment, but I am going to figure a better way of mounting it.

yup mine looks so much smaller.

the silver part in the middle is what i had to add on. i was thinking about just using the rubber connector too but since i have the P2R spacer on it didnt really work out that way. i kind wish i did now cause i have 4 shiny clamps on my intake haha i saw another injen that was polished alum and it looks better than black now i think imo.

I would just like to claim the honor of having the first 4" intake on a CLS. Im pretty sure my DIY predates P2Rs copy of my design. lol. Perhaps they will feel generous enough to send me one of their's for free!

Yes good find, great mod. When I saw the p2r's post about that, I picked myself up a 4" 45 to a straight from a local exhaust shop....lol.. $20 Just trying to find a filter to fit on the end of it. I'll get some pics up as soon as I get it done.
