Dealer won't cover my warped rotors

I just brought my CL-S in for the tranny recall, and also wanted them to look at the rotors. The service rep (good guy by the way) said that even though I have a certified vehicle AND bought the extended warranty, since I am at 53K miles I am out of the original warranty period, therefore they will NOT cover it. I'm a little pissed about that.

I guess I'm on my way to getting the Rotora slotted rotors. Do you guys think I run should with new stock pads of get different pads?

If you are at 53k miles I don't see why they would cover it. Rotors are going to warp eventually and at 53k miles the life of your brakes is at about the end of the road. The extended warranty doesn't cover normal wear and tear items like your brakes.

Getting warped rotors fixed under warranty seems to have been stopped. Granted there is a TSB but it's so old now that most cars will have over 30K miles so they can now say it's no longer covered. My 03 had 22K miles when I tried to get them fixed & the 3 dealers I went to would not do it. Even with the printout of the TSB I had. They claimed it didn't cover my car.

I had mine done at 51k but it was only 8k miles since the last time they resurfaced them so I was covered by the dealers "12 month/12k mile" warranty on repairs. They replaced the rotors and pads. I'm at 75k now with no warping.

Interesting, when my first CLS had about 11k miles the dealer eplaced everything free.
but it was a new dealer in town and they were being very friendly maybe just to build customers? I wonder if they will still cover this if my current CLS has brake problems? it is fine now with 13k miles.

have your rotors warped before? I've complained several times about the car shuttering under moderate braking and they recently replaced my pads under warranty eventhough they were worn past the "TSB" specs. Only thing that made me mad was they wrote on the invoice something like, "Owner drives aggressively"

they wrote "Owner acts aggressively" on mine.

Keep in mind that my rotors were shaved at 29K miles right before I purchased the car used from a dealership, so they were already damaged before I puchased the vehicle...

With that said, I just got off the phone with Acura customer care. The person documented and submitted my request to have the rotors replaced and is turning it in to a case manager. I should hear back from them in 24-48 hours. The CC person also asked me if I was willing to split the cost of new rotors at a 25% to 75% ratio. 25% being me. -I agreed to consider it only. It sounded like the guy knew what he was doing when he mentioned the cost-splitting scenerio to me. I'll probably chip-in for 25%, the car does have 53K miles on it now.

Nothing personal, but if they were machined at 29K and they lasted until 53K I really don’t think you have anything to complain about.

Anything beyond 30k and you are skating on thin ice. Brakes only last to long regardless of their initial quality.

Acura was nice enough to warranty brakes to 50K. Iif it was a Honda they wouldn't even warranty brakes.

Shawn- Here is my reasoning:

1. The Acura TSB out on the rotors
2. Posts that I had read from this forum on others that were repaired at no cost
3. Purchased a "Certified" car from a dealer that stated that by buying a certified car that my factory warranty would be extended to over 62K miles
4. Purchased the Acura extended warranty

So with that said, one would think I may have a case. Unfortunately the dealer didn't think so.... UNTIL I WENT BACK THIS AFTERNOON AND HANDED ME ONE.

I went back to the dealer to get my car back with the understanding that they would not run the car though thier car wash, as it scratches my factory wheels. (It has already happened there once and they re-inbursed me.) I see my car in the lot all nice and shiny, I look at the rear, and the licence plate was bent up from the corner, from an AUTOMATIC CAR WASH. I look at the rear wheel and it's got two nice black scratches on opposite sides of the wheel. I look at the front, and there are more.

Now I'm pissed.

I call the cleint care guy to the parking lot, not allowing him to see the rear licence plate. I politely ask him if the car was hand washed, he said yes. I say, "take a look at the back here. Does your porter bend license plates when he hand washes cars like your auto washer does???" Then I get pissed at him and make him look at the damaged rims. We have a quick banter and he says that he's not going to cover it. Fine. I go inside and go straight for the service manager. I close the door behind me and explain the scenerio in detail. I make him remember writing the re-imbersment check to the wheel repair shop from my last visit, a lightbulb goes on and now he knows who I am. We go back and fourth a couple times,

Finally he agrees to give me new front rotors, with new pads all the way around.

I still eat the cost for the rim, which is $120.00. Not a bad deal.

My local Murrays auto parts store will resurface rotors for $10/piece. You just gotta pull them off yourself, which is a 15minute job with basic hand tools & a jack.

The dealership is extremely overpriced for rotors. They resurfaced mine for free under warranty (15k miles) and said that it wasa one time only thing. I think they charged Acura like $150/axle, which is a fuckin serious rip off. The local Midas will probably do all 4 for under a hundred bucks, not including pads. Brakes, especially discs, are very easy to do by yourself. I never was taught by anyone and I just tore into my taurus and after doing it once I had it down pretty easily.

Oh and I fuckin hate dealerships with a passion. I have taken my car in 3 times for minor shit and 3 times I have come away with a damaged rim or scratched paint. The only way I will ever go back is because of something extremely major to fix.
