Dealer told me using Silicone to seals the holes would rust fast?

Is this true? When I installed my spoiler, the dealer told me to remove the silicone I put on the car to seal the holes I made on the inside and outside and just put paint instead. Paint doesn't seal as you know so my question is does it really make the car rust fast?

silicone I think would be fine if it is desigend for that purpose, if it is not a perfect seal though it might hold in water. I personally would have done both. so i see nothing wrong with the use of silicon jsut got makesure there is a really good seal

Yea there is a good seal, but they said that silicone reacts with metal, and will cause it to rust. ???

When a local auto glass installer was doing a windshield on my wife's Integr, he mentioned to NEVER use silcone sealant where water might collect. He said it attracts water and the sealant that should be used is a poly-something. Don't know if he is right, but he has been in business around here for close to 30 years!

He is right some silicones should not be used with metal but depending on the properties of the silicone (silicone is not all the same) some will work well for that app. But then again remember silicone will hold water if water is allowed to get in to a cavity and can't excape. If tha cavity has exposed metal in it, the metal will rust.
