Angry Which damn Plug to use??

Which damn plug do I use for a 2003 CL type S?? O'reilly says one thing, autozone says another, NGKsparkplugs.com says another and NGK.com says another LOL!

Seriously though, I want to use the iridium IXs since they're a bit cheaper

O'reilly says to use:ZFR5FIX-11 #2477

Autozone says to use the laser iridiums(long life): IZFR6K11 #6994

NGKsparkplugs.com says to use the same as mentioned for autozone

NGK.com says to use: ZFR5FIX-11 #2477 (same as oreilly)

BUT, I found one more plug ZFR6FIX-11 #6441 which is one step colder than that which ngk.com specifies, but ngksparkplugs.com specifies the colder plug but a different model?

Any advice? I'm leaning towards the ZFR6FIX-11 #6441 which i'll most likely do once thanksgiving break hits and i'm out of school for a few days...

Thanks, I see that you went with the premium Iridium IXs which last about 100K miles, but have a premium price tag also..

I'll go with the regular Iridium IXs 6441 which last about 60K miles but half the price with the same heat range.

Thank for you input.

For the Type-S, use the "6" heat range.

I'm running the 6FIX. 2 sets for the last 60-70k miles. Great value for money, works well.

I used the lazer iridium plugs for 03 CL-S. My car's worth it, besides I dont wanna be touching that stuff for another 7 years.

The ones I actually went with were the Laser Iridiums, not Iridium IX's.

just replace them every 2-3 years... it makes a difference..

car will even start in one or 2 turns less.

did for me when I got my NGK Iridums. plus will increase mileage big time I can only assume. one of the reasons why I can get over 30mpg.

are you talking about the iridium IX plug ZFR6FIX-11 part number 6441? Is that the one you used?

I just went on excellerateperformance.com and searched for plugs there. code will be listed and just use that for a reference.

I believe you are referring to the correct part number.

The plugs the have listed on their website are one step WARMER than the plugs, from what I understand, intended to go into our vehicles.

They have: ZFR5FIX-11 (One step Warmer Irid. IX)

While I Need: ZFR6FIX-11 (One step Cooler Irid. IX)

alright well if you want those, then just buy them here:

http://ngk.com/results_cross.asp?pid...X-11&x=51&y=13

However according to the service manual, it says to use Laser Iridiums or Laser Platinums. When I did my spark plug change, the plugs that were installed (assuming from the factory) were Laser Platinums. PZFR6E or something like that.

Thanks for all the help, but they sell them at autozone or O'reilly for 6.99, nearly a dollar cheaper. And it beats shipping charges and waiting for the plugs etc.

well i got 229whp without lazer plugs on my auto.. and over 30 mpg.

so my bet is that they say to get those plugs simply because they are more $ and last longer.. what DLR wouldn't want to do that.

Yeah I got the laser iridiums since I kinda felt like getting Iridium IXs would be kind of a downgrade from the OEM plugs...

Wait, you're not willing to buy plugs that match OEM quality because they're too much money, but you have no problem spending thousands more on a level 10 trans for your car? I'm not giving you crap for going the level 10 route, just think it's kind of ironic.

I DID THE E3 PLUGS.
Great reviews across the board for them, so i installed the front three, and couldnt figure out what all needed to be removed from the rear, so i am going to finish it tomorrow. looks like just the IMRC needs to be removed..
The front only takes about 10 minutes, rears look to be about 50 minutes...lol

did mine at night with a flashlight in about 45 mins

you need a swivel head for your 10mm socket and one long extension and one medium.

getting the bolt out was easy IMHO, it was getting it back in at night with the flashlight in my mouth that was the careful part.

don't drop that sucker

SO, I was told today that I'm losing performance in my car because of my E3 plugs... This guy is a mechanic and owns a performance shop, but I dont see how he is correct..

He said NGK is the only plug to use on an Acura/Honda car...
what are your thoughts on this statement?

I agree, heres what I found when I did research before I changed mine.
The denso and bosche plugs were just a much lesser quality in the plugs they make for honda's
The main difference between the different level of plugs is the life of the plug, obvioulsy the high end ones will last longer and the low end ones won't but performance wise I didn't find anything indicating that there was a difference.
When I do it again and if I were you I would go with the iridium tips.

APPARENTLY, AFTER HOURS OF MORE RESEARCH, I F'D UP, BECAUSE E3 PLUGS ARENT GOOD FOR OUR CARS, OR ANY HONDA FOR THAT MATTER.

ONLY PLUG TO USE IN A 6SPD '03-'08 cl-s or tl
*NGK LASER IRIDIUM IZFR6K11*

now I gotta do this all over again, and spend $75 for the set of plugs as well

LOL, you should have checked with us over at the TL side.

The part number you want is: ZFR6FIX-11

Either the Laser Iridium or the Iridium IX is fine. The Iridium IX have been tried and tested by almost all the TL cars.

ive been running the E3's for about 3k miles, and was comparing them to the old ones that were nasty and burned up in my car,(NGK), but I should have just stuck with the stock ones rather than try and do something different again. Im not having much luck doing that lately...lol..thanks Karanx

I use the lazer iridium plugs, the same ones that come with the car from the factory. Now those are tried and true.

No those aren't stock. The 3G TL cars used the Laser Iridium for stock, but our 2G TL and CL cars use NGK Platinums for stock. Most, if not all, TL guys get the Iridium IX.

The STOCK part number is: ZFR6F-11
The Iridium IX part number is: ZFR6FIX-11

Notice the only difference is the IX part.

They used the lazer iridiums in the 03 CL-S 6spd. I also put them in my 01 without any issues. I consider them an "upgrade" from the lazer platniums. But the majority of the 2G CL/TL will run great on the lazer platniums. Also the IX probably wont last 105k.
