Damn hissing sound...

Gotta say... the constant hissing from the CAI is kind of annoying , although the roar that comes when the pedal hits the floor is quite enjoyable.

I wish I could keep that roar without the hissing... Anyone else annoyed by that darth vader sound or know how to cure it? Is it just the way it is, or did I get a bad install?

Mine is the same way. I think almost everybody is getting the hissing noise. Did you install you pulleys yet? Did you notice a difference with the pulleys, and CAI?

CAI's are supposed to hiss when the engine is cold. There's a topic about that somewhere that I started. It explains in detail just what is going on. When the engine is warmed up it subsides considerably. If I listen closely, I can hear the air being sucked in, but it's not annoying at all. Can you notice a difference between when the car is cold and warm? If not, you may have a problem. I'd give it a few weeks though as you'll get used to it. I thought the CAI was really loud at first and now I'm just used to it - it seems normal! Having recently driven some screaming 4 cyl engines (Miata, S2000), I thoughts.... gee... these things are kinda quiet

that's the reason why i removed the intake (short ram from AEM) because i felt the hissing and the whistling sound were annoying. but i think it's due to the more free flowing air filter!

Which intake did you get the AEM or Xephyr?? Do you have a bypass valve??

If you have a leak in the intake it may cause to make a low droaning noise. I have the AEM w/ bypass and it's not that noticeable (heck let me correct that, it's NOT noticeable) inside the cabin.

I heard mine hissing for about 2 minutes this morning, probably because my car hadn't warmed up yet. It was the first time I heard the hissing for so long, usually I just hear it when I shut the car off.

I have the AEM intake, and I just notice it mostly after starting the engine. If I am stopped with the windows down I can hear the constant sucking noise. When I hit the gas it disappears... Probably just being anal...

Ill give it a couple weeks...
Gotta love the vtech roar, though. Maybe ill wait till I get my headers and exhaust installed next week and see how it sounds then...

I've never heard the hissing from my CAI, but then again I live in the desert and it's always warm,I also don't drive with the windows down much at all, inside the cabing the only noticable sounds are the 2-3.5K rpms through the exhaust, and the VTEC kickins.
