If your car isn't lowered, then it should be covered under warranty.

Still, it's always up to the dealer.

Mine went out and they refused to fix it under warranty...but that was expected considering my suspension modifications.

Those things either go the life of the car or they fail suddenly for no apparent reason .The axles have to be pulled to get at the gearbox so my guess is they might have damaged and not noticed it on reassembly then some miles later the thing tears open.I have seen these things come apart on brand new cars so you should really have no issues to get it covered .Lowering the car really does not stress the boot .

When I had my brakes resurfaced at 8K miles under the good will one time only policy, they noticed my boot was the same way. The service manager was gone, so the tech just fixed it anyway. I'm sure I would have been given alot of grief getting it replaced since my car is lowered.

Been testing those slicks...

IMO, it should be covered particularly since they were recently working in that region of the car.
