Crank Pulley DIY?

Anyone have the link to a DIY crank pulley thread. I know I saw one on here before but cant find it now. Trying to get a guide before I do a lightweight crank pulley myself.

you will not be able to get the crank bolt off unless you have a 1000ft/lbs tq impact gun.

that was the only mod i brought my car to a shop to do.

that only way around that is to use the starter method.

get a breaker bar with the correct socket and rest the end on the ground. Then blip the starter/ignition and when the engine turns over it should power through the bolt. make sure you remove the fuel pump relay or else you may end up actually starting the car and then your breaker bar is going for a ride through the engine bay LOL.

I like many got cold feet when hearing this starter method and opted to let a shop do my pulley.

but if u wanna do it urself, i am sure the starter method will suffice.

My crank pulley, which frees up some of the power because its lighter weight. But I was under the impression the harmonic balancer had a part with the crank pulley? Does it not?

The harmonic balancer IS the crank pulley in factory form.

Been covered here a ton of times.

It's been posted in the FAQ too.

The harmonic balancer is another way for saying a tank. It's a monstrosity when you feel what it weighs to a lightweight aluminum one.

I and many people have used the starter method to get it off.

Worked beautifully.

This. Long breaker bar to keep it held. Pull the fuel pump fuse so it doesn't turn over. Really quick tap on the starter to pop it loose.

I would remember that these are now 11 year old vehicles (12 really). It can be a lot harder to get parts moving that haven't been removed in that time. May be worth saving the headache by just going to a shop and having them deal with it. Then they have to fix it if they break anything.

absolutely. I still remember how hard it was to get the stock vacuum and coolant hoses off their ports when I did my CAI install. And that was like 4 years ago.
