Removing the UR crank pulley

I got the UR crank pulley last year. Now time has come to replace my timing belt which requires the removal of the pulley.

I can't use the special tool to remove it, since the UR pulley doesn't have the appropriate slot. Is my only shot to brace the bolt with a breaker bar and crank the engine? I did it once before, but its a pretty scare experiance so I would prefer to avoid it.

Ideas?

you can try a heavy duty impact gun. 3/4 in drive and 1200lb of torque. if not take it to a shop that could do it.

Use a big breaker bar, and socket. Put the breaker bar on the bolt and set it so that the breaker bar is on the ground. Then just bump the starter. (DON"T LET IT START) I thought it was crazy stupid too do. But when I ran out of options I tried it and it worked flawlessly. Almost no effort. I can not remember what direction the engine turns though, so you'll have to figure that out first. It's another story to put it back on it you don't have a impact gun though!

A good impact gun, 1/2" drive might work but 3/4" should definitely work.

From my understanding, you need a 1" impact gun because anything smaller won't do the trick.

I've also read that using a pulley holder isn't a good idea with aluminum pullies because they are bound to break.

just don't try doing it by yourself if you don't know what you're doing.

Well I've cranked it before to break the bolt, so I guess thats gonna have to be the way to go. I refuse to pay a shop a grand to change my timing belt and I certainly don't have a 3/4" or 1" impact gun.

Thanks.
