Converting a '01AT to an '01MT

Is it possible to convert a '01 auto to an MT. I do believe that the MT conversion would work but I am questioning if it is possible to add the additional motor mount.

Anyone know?

Possible, yes...

But it would be more economical to take a hit on an auto for a manual trade.

$15K hit vs. a $2K conversion. I thought of doing a trade in but came up with the conversion for a solution.

Question, is there a place/bracket/perch to mount the additional engine mount?

maybe that, but you also have to worry about the master cylinder, cables, reservoirs, lines...... ecu?

i think its too much to worry about IMO.

It was really just a guess-ta-mate. I mean really how much is a gear box and extra pedal?

The '03 ECU controls a few things with the tranny. You need the clutch fork, pedal, master-cylinder assembly, slave-cylinder assembly, clutch-lines, axles, four new motor-mounts (I think), interior center console (bottom-part), shift-cables, shifter, and don't forget the knob!

I had to run a hard clutch-line once on a civic while the engine is in the car... not fun!! Most of the conversions I have seen use steel-braided lines.

In any case... you have to consider the fact that the '01 and '02 CL-S were designed without a Manual Transmission in mind. It appears the MT was an after-though. So, a lot of the stupid little holes and plugs and things on the chassis, frame etc. might not be present in the older vehicles. I'd think an '03 would be slightly easier to convert!!

I would guess that the cost would be in the $5000+ range. You could probably trade in and take about that much of a hit and have a warranty for the 6-Speed...

If I were you I would just trade it in and get a newer one and take the negative equity. Its a pain in the ass to do the swap and you never know if somethings going to go wrong. I would just get the 03'w/ warranty if you are that much about it. It should cost around 5k to do the swap, I know Ive been doing alot of research.

Well-Are you "in" with any Acura dealer? Blow the auto tranny, take it to Acura and tell them you'll pay the difference

Thats a thought. Although I feel that if the cost is 5K to do the conversion then Acura would tack on an additional 2K (cost of new tranny) so they don't have to shell out anything.

Possiable. But it's alot harder to convert a car that never had a manual option. Tons more work. Parts alone would be in the thousands. Then there's labor. $5-10K project 3 or more weeks to do. Makes no sense to me. Makes better sense to trade in the car, if not for a 6 speed, then for a totaly different car.

Agree. But it would be a $13K-$15K kick in the balls if I did a trade off. So $5K to do a conversion seems a whole lot better.

as I remember someone did this kind of a swap on an accord...

they swapped the whole engine 3.2 litre type s including the 5 speed manumatic slush box (teh shit tranny)...

I supposidly costed $8 K to do the whole conversion.

Fortunatly it didn't take much custom work because most of the CL/TL peices bolted right up....

I dunno how this would work with a 6 speed...

Try searching for the thread or someone can pull it out of their favorites... Good luck!

You could definetly do it, but, the parts cost would be the least of your worries. The ECU is the biggest problem. The amount of work it would take just to make the ECU compatable with the MT would be thousands. I would say just bite the bullet and trade-it is not worth the endless hours of work and money for the swap.

I've been having similar thoughts, because after 100k it would def be worth it for the conversion, but trading in may be the better option. It's just that all that stuff has been applied to your car and it would be nice for a cheap tranny swap. keep up the good research as I'll be following this thread closely......

I know these costs would be minimal compared to others, but would he have to change the radiator, thermostat, and other cooling things, as well? VSA implications?

Just gotta add - if you do the manual conversion : you not only have the cost of the parts and labor and maintenance... but when you finally DO go to trade it in, it'll be worth about $1000 less...

Manny trannys are just worth less than autos for used cars...

i've talked to the guy with the accord, and he was able to trick the ecu to think its always in D1.

trading the car in now isnt going to be worth it, given that the cl is out of production. but the swap of course, will come later whne the tranny blows after warranty.

a tranny swap is a PITA. its also even worse when no one else has done it, so its like taking a stab in the dark.
