Comptech headers

To those that have ONLY the Comptech headers installed (no S/C, no CAI or IceBox, no axle back exhaust)...

Did you notice a significant change once you had them installed? Comptech states a +32hp over stock. So did it really feel like 292hp? The reason I ask is because I drove a CL-S 6sp (1200 miles on odo) with only the headers and I really didn't notice much of a change. Perhaps it's because the engine was still being broken in. Anyway, please give me your honest thoughts. I have a 6sp with only a K/N drop-in filter. If you only have the Comptech headers (not the OBX ones), what are your honest opinions on it? Worth the plunge? I don't plan on any axle-back exhaust because I hate the droning sound.

dude, i had a 2002 CL-S that ran 14.8@96 stock....with no other mods besides OBX (supposedly weaker than comptech) headers, and in VERY similar weather, my car was down to a 14.3@99.

yes, headers alone make a big differance. no matter how you slice it, 5 tenths of a 1/4 mile time from one mod is pretty damn good

Your trap speed is more indicative to your engine HP.
Jimcol, do you know your 60' time in both runs?

I have CAI and CT header for a while on my Auto, and I definatly noticed a big difference in TOP end power. (smoother, and pulls harder). I got the CT exhaust later on, and did not notice any performance difference, but it's all good, because I got it for the looks. I hate looks of the 01 exhaust.

When I had my headers installed I only had the K&N filter (now I have IceBox) on my six speeder.

Yes. You can feel it with the famed 'butt dyno.

No. You won't feel it in sub-VTEC RPMs. As advertised, it adds the majority of HP in the upper part of the RPM band. It doesn't seem to do squat (nor would I expect it to) for everyday stop & go traffic driving, but it will help you get onto the freeway faster .

Is it worth it? You know the cost, so the real question would be, 'can you afford it?' I could, so the relative worth was not an issue that I considered. In other words, since there is only one product on the market, there is nothing to compare it too. It costs what it costs. If there were competing products that had similar quality and specs then the concept of 'worth' may come into issue.

...and to those who are going to retort with 'what about OBX, stone, or brand x...?', please re-read Roleez' post: he has a six speeder. There is only one aftermarket header available and marketed.

Roleez, I suggest you research the Comptech Exhaust a little more, it's hardly noticeable during normal driving, but sounds great when pushed. It doesn't drone like other exhausts plus it looks better than the stock exhaust. I think a lot of members here would agree with me.

I felt a big difference on my TL-P, I know I'll be even better on the CL-S 6 speed.

Best bang for the buck... I had mine on at 1200 miles... and Slimey and the rest of the guys are right.. Upper RPMS is where it gets it!!!....

I also noticed that the car felt easier to pull out and launch, but I think that was just a figment of my imagination....

How many more ft-lbs of torque does the header generate? (I know comptechusa.com has an Acrobat reader .pdf file for their dyno results, but for some reason, my computer's not cooperating). Or if someone can open the .pdf file, can someone please post the dyno for just the header? Thanks!

check the dyno in my sig for Stone Headers.
OBX did some 20 lbft more than stock starting at 5500 rpms. (Bulldog's CLS)
Stone headers did 4lbft more than OBX on the same day.

You will notice the difference. Average quarter mile gains are .5 or so depending on weather.

Just wondering if any plans to fabricate these for the 6 speed folks have been made?
