CODE 97 - Trans
Hey All,
So I just pulled my CL out of storage and was just about to clean it up for sale. After I pulled it out, an interior lite was left on a drained the battery. When I boosted it, a VSA and ! Light appeared on the dash. I scanned the vehicle but nothing would come up on my scanner. But, given the suggestion by member Fireball, I then linked pins 4+9 and read how many time the ABS blinked (signifying the code). Code 97 which when I asked Chat gpt what it meant, this was the reply;
Error code 97 on a 2001 Acura CL Type S typically refers to an issue with the automatic transmission. More specifically, this code is often associated with a problem in the automatic transmission's lock-up control system. This can indicate a fault with the torque converter clutch solenoid, or it may be a more general issue within the transmission system.
To accurately diagnose and address this issue, it is recommended to:
1. **Check the Transmission Fluid**: Ensure it is at the correct level and in good condition.
2. **Inspect Wiring and Connectors**: Look for any damaged or corroded wiring or connectors related to the transmission system.
3. **Use an OBD-II Scanner**: A more detailed scan using an OBD-II scanner can provide additional information and confirm the exact nature of the issue.
Given the complexity of automatic transmissions, consulting with a professional mechanic or transmission specialist is often necessary to accurately diagnose and repair the issue.
Took the vehicle for a drive the other day and it shifts perfect. What is actually tripping the code in the trans? (lack of pressure?). Is there any luck with new fluid? Shifter solenoid replacement? If any of this communities members have input on where you think I should go from here, I’d really appreciate it.
