CLS v.s. 08 Altima & 08 Camry

If anyone has driven from Las Olas to Miami you know it's about a 40 minute drive with traffic. So I'm cruising at 90mph to make it to the clubs in time when my first victim was somebody in an 08 Altima. I checked the rear trunk lid and didn't see any SE-R type badging but this person is still egging me on. The tint was jet black and I couldn't tell if it was a guy or a woman. Whoever it was they had a lot of confidence in their car. Anyways, the person keeps baiting me and baiting me till I finally gate shifted into third. We're side-by-side all the way up to 115 when he slowly fades away and I'm gaining 5 to 6 carlengths.

I'm in Fort Lauderdale when an 08 Camry blasted right by me. I catch up to him and he lines up with me. He shot off about 4 carlenths ahead of me when I gate shifted down to 3rd and reeled him in. The Camry was a little harder to beat but I chopped him down at 127.

Totally stock except for being well maintained. I never mod my daily drivers.

OFF TOPIC: You really love Tiesto don't you? Haha I have been looking at your avatars...I saw him and BT and Benny Benassi I believe + others here at Global@Red Rocks.

SideSwipe you sound like you drive like a crazy ass lol...not saying that I don't or haven't before...127 on the highway with other people around is risky though. If you like to take your car to the max I don't see the harm in getting some OBX/SS headers for 150 bucks = 25-30 whp. Both those cars are 3.5's so they have more tq than us, blah blah...I still like the look of the 3G TL/2g CL/new Accord over the Camry or Altima/Maxima. The Altima coupe kindalooks like a cross between the RSX and G/Z. They are supposed to run the 1/4 in mid 14's, I have actually heard that the CVT is faster at highway speeds than the 6MT.

The CVT is actually slower than the older 5AT both in 1/4 mile times and trap speeds. There are many guys that have taken there 07 Maxima CVT's to the track and they can't outrun the 04-06 5AT Maximas. The 6MT will beat down both the auto and CVT trannies even from highway speeds. I haven't seen one owner take their altima coupe down the track yet but the 07+ altima Sedan 6MT is a low 14 second car. Best I have seen is 14.1@100MPH for the 6MT. The best CVT time I have seen is 14.9@93mph for the new 07 altima. I know it can run faster but not enough people have taken the new altima to the track yet.

Ya the MT will obviously be quicker from a stop I believe due to at least 1st gear if not 2nd is steeper than the max GR of the CVT, and of course launching with the MT...but you say even 5AT Max's are quicker than the CVT max's? Interesting...Cars.com lists the 07 Altima CVT 0-60 in 4.65 and 1/4 13.3@103

I believe low 14's for the 6MT Altima in the quarter, they are <3300lbs IIRC. My friend actually just bought a new Altima CVT and she let me drive it on the highway, it felt very close to as fast as the I/H CLs from 55-90. I don't know how the CVT does on the dyno, but I had assumed that if the max GR is say 2.70, that you could do what would be a normal 3rd gear pull on the highway (like I did) and it would drop all the way to a 2.70 GR? That is why I thought the CVT may be faster on the highway, and also because my friend who is all about the Asian cars claimed he had evidence...

The Altima had to be a 4 cylinder because if faded away after 115mph. The Camry was the 6 cylinder version because I had to fight with that car past 127mph even though I ended up eventually beating him.

I dunno. I considered getting headers but I'm so afraid of someone fucking up the instillation or fucking up all those damn sensors. If you think I drive crazy, then you obviously haven't driven on I-95 around the Fort Lauderdale and Miami areas between 1am and 3am. I've had guys pass by me in modded BMW's, Porsches, Vettes, and sport bikes like I was standing still even though I was doing 120mph. Besides, there are stretches of I-95 that are wider and just as smooth as the track at the Talladega raceway. You can hit 140mph and feel like you're only doing 65mph, which you know isn't hard to do in a CLS. And I have Fusion ZRi tires, which gives me all the more confidence.

hmm it was a little challenge for me to beat one and i have i/h/e/p... I now have thermoblock spacers and throttlebody spacer so i shouldn't have any problems. I think the v6 camry would make short work out of any stock 2g CL/TL

somebody needs to drop a 3.7 MDX engine into a CL and start modding from there.

It's already understood what's under the hood of a V6 Camry but the main factor is this wasn't a straightline, 0-60 race on a controled race track. This was an all top end race with random curves. Being a 2008 I wouldn't think this guy would have a full grasp of how to handle this car or I wouldn't have beaten him. 15HP doesn't mean shit if you don't know how to drive your car to its full potential.
