CLS 6-speed Issue/Problem

Ok, well Im not sure if this is a feature or a problem with my CLS. Heres the story. Last week I left for Colorado to go snowboarding. We drive to Dulles International where Im to park my baby for a week, despite my paranoia of even wanting to do that. No choice in the matter though. Anyway, we fly back in a week later, find my car, and I start it to warm it up. We go add our luggage to the trunk, chill outisde the car for a good 8-10 minutes to let it warm up. All is good to this point. However, as soon as I get in and put it in reverse to back out of the space, my engine starts revving by itself from 1K to 2K over and over. I let it do this for say, 30 seconds, then tapped the gas to see if it would stop. It didnt so I backed out. It stopped immediately as I started to drive. I know it was really cold here in DC last week and my car has never set that long without having been driven. Is this a 'im too damn cold to go' feature or is there something wrong?

I did do a search(nothing found), my car has 32K and yes i had the 30K maintenece done. Input anyone?

Wild ass guess here, but maybe there was condensation in the fuel line/tank and the computer was trying to manage the best it could.

That happens in the car when it's cold and you try and drive it before it's fully warm. My car sits outside and i have it happen every morning.

From: Miami - just one day, I would like to drive without getting cut off!
sounds like a problem I had wth my TLS only a few months after I bought it. The car would rev up and down by its self, almost feeling like fluctuating power boosts. But that was over two years ago and I don't remember the part name but I took it to the dealer and had my car back shorly agter.

DCnative .. ok I think I know exactly what your describing.
Friend of mine has a 97 Honda Prelude w\H22. He just got it back in December from a complete motor build up. Ever since then, normally when cold but sometimes when not, it'll do this odd rolling idle. it'll rev itself from 1k to 2k, then drop back to 1k, and do it again .. over and over. It is annoying. Sometimes for 10 minutes straight.
Then one day, like 3 weeks ago .. I had JUST bolted up my CT exhaust. The engine was warm, and I had my friend rev it so I could hear it. MY car started to do it! I blipped the throttle a few times to see if it'd stop, no luck .. shut the car off and restarted, never did it again to this day. My friends mechanic told him its some kind of "cold start" thing on his Prelude, but its done it warm, and mine was warm when it did it .. still no idea FOR SURE what it is, but he's been driving his Prelude for months with it doing this, no REAL problems. just annoying.
BTW I have an 03 CLS 5AT. He has a 97 Lude 5spd.

I think the worst part is during the initial start up since all the oil is in the bottom and the parts are unlubed and cold

I can literlly hear the engine crank differently when its really cold and during above 40 degrees temps.

That temperature and length of time shouldn't have been a factor. Hell, that ain't cold. Shawn sounds close to me, but how mach gas was in your tank. I never let it go below half way here in Chicago (plus, it's much less traumatic money wise when you fill up. Premium here =$1.80 to $2.00).

My company makes all kinds of automotive parts, and no design EVER gets released until it works, and works perfectly in the -40 farenheight chamber, repeatedly.

Personally for me, if it hits -30, my car stays in the garage for that day and screw work. Too damn cold.

ECU is searching for idle postion....... Your idle postion sensor could of went bad.

Did you recently get an icebox or intake installed??
or

What I was thinking.

I seem to recall others who needed the idle position sensor repaired/replaced. I'd take it in to the dealer if this continues.

You might also want to toss some fuel dryer in the tank to treat it as if there is ice in the line, or at least take that issue of the list.

Happen to my CL after I put my CAI in. But for some weird reason it started while I was driving. It revved up to 6000rpm a few times on it's own. I tapped the pedal a few times. Never happened again. Guess the ECU adjusted.
