CL-S vs. Lex SC400 - Any thoughts???

My buddy is buying a 94 Lexus SC400 (auto.) with 80K miles today and is dying to race me with it. I am assuming the SC400 is stock. The 0-60 times I could find for that car are 7.0-7.1, and that was when the car was new. I thought the V8 would have been a little quicker than that.

Do you think it will even be close or will I just smoke him???

(Wasn't sure if this should be in racing stories, because it dosen't actually contain a racing story, thanks)

Well, if the 0-60 for that years model is 7.0-7.1, then you should easily take him, I'm assuming you have a Type-S. I have a first-gen CL with a few mods and I raced an SC400 once, don't know what year it was. His torque initially gave him about a foot ahead of me, but didn't gain much after that and we were dead even, I could look over and see him thru my passenger window , all the way to 70mph when there was traffic up ahead. This was a really stupid race cause it was on the streets and if some idiot were to jump out into our lanes, we would be dead. That was my last-ever street race when I realized how dumb it was.

Anyway, the later models(ie 98) are faster to 60 than the earlier models, they can do it in 6.1.

I raced an sc400 the other night in my TL-S it kept up 1-2 but 2-3 i pulled ahead by a car and a half and it stayed that way the rest of the time. It was a good run though.

you might try http://www.clublexus.com

'92-'97 has 250-260hp & 260-270 lb-ft

'98-'00 has 290hp & 290 lb-ft

RWD & more torque may give the early SC's the advantage but
weight should be about the same.

'98 and up should win easily

Yeah u should beat him 0-60 but the V-8 opens up some after that. He got the pre-VVTi model 250hp/250 lbs torque 4.0 liter 32 valves V-8.

You think the CL is a pig....look at the SC....and the later years only match the CL-S in terms of performance..its all that added girth.

AHA! I knew someone will bring this up. My father has the 02 LS430 and my moms drive a SC400 97. 97 SC has a better body trim, tails and better front grill. The car has some pull but its only in upper highway speeds. I used to drive her car alot and for take off, the car cannot hang with a cls thru 1-2-3.

Yes the car is/feels heavy but lexus has that damn ect power/sport button that allows the car to have better trottle response and stiffens/lowers the suspension. On the highway, a stock cls will not win. Modded cls i/h/e, i will give it to the cls by a little. Modded SC will crush a cls.

92-96 SC 400 will NOT beat a cls Stock or modded.

I feel the SC400 98+ is quick....but if it is like the GS400...if it doesnt win off the line....the CL is going to beat it. Remember the CL-S makes most of its power up top....and dies in that 3-4 shift...thats when the SC shoots by the CL....

A few years ago at the track, there was a 94-95 SC400 with exhaust and the bottle. he wa running 14.50@99 as the best time.

Fortunely back then I had my 1995 T bird SC which was running 12.80@114mph!!!!
